Subject: 4 wheeler ? again on the can-am

NE SD
I posted about a week ago on can-am vs. arctic cat and I think I have my search down to a can am 4 wheeler instead of a arctic cat. This was a very hard decision since I am a die hard cat snowmobile guy. I have not looked at the yamaha yet and not sure I will.
For you guys that really keep up with the changes in 4 wheelers I have a question. I have learned that there is a body style change in the 2012's in the 800 and 1000's. I had not planned on buying one that big and did not want to spend that much but dealer says (the 800 is mostly what we sell) that this new style is much better. He did not have a 650 for me to ride at the time but the 800 was super fast and I was really impressed. For those that have both the 650 and 800 is there that much difference in power and does this new style handle and ride better?
Will be used at least half the time as a fun 4 wheeler riding with my son and his motorcycle and the other half crop scouting but want something with decent speed and a better ride than my honda. The 800 is about 1k more money.
Thanks

I see you are still deciding! You sound like me. I have not owed a 650 CanAm but can tell you the difference in the ride between a conventional chassis and the new chassis is great. Comfortable ride and puts the power to the ground with the rear trailing arms. I am not the guy that buys the "new" thing the first year out but after riding and looking over the new style I was hooked. No disappointments here. The one upgrade I did was tires. Can Am cheaped out when they made a deal with Carlisle. Although I had no trouble with the OEM tires I went with Maxxis Zillas and love them. The 800 will definately outperform the 650. I had a 650 Brute Force and feel it should be very comparable with the CA powerwise. It was a powerful engine but will not be close to the 8. I look at it this way. I bought a 07 Polaris 600HO RMK because they were a hot machine in 07. Not long after I kicked myself because altitude really robbed that sled of power. Now M8ho and love it (should of got a 800 to start with but I settled for a 6 due to $). Good luck. p.s. Buy the 8.

Have a 6 month old canam 500. Going to buy a second 500 this year. We have employees on these machines and do not need the extra risk that comes with a high hp unit. The ride of a canam is the best out there. No need for an 800A in my opinion, the 500 is fast.

I have an 04 and an 05 400 Outlanders. Both have around 4500 miles on them, mostly by employees. They have been basically bulletproof. I have been very pleased with them.

There is no replacement for Displacement !!!

Spend the extra 1K and let er rip ! You won't be sorry. It will rip your arms off and give you an ultra-grin every time you punch the throttle. Just buy it and let your son eat your dust !

Dont own one, but from what I have read and heard, get the G2 chassis. Either a 800R or 1000.

Never owned a can am but I agree to get the biggest you can afford. I've never heard of anyone saying "I wish I'd of bought the smaller one".

Do you have the 800xt now? Any trouble at all? Is the extra 18mths of warranty worth the 350 bucks?

Deereman I have a 1000XT that I bought last fall. Zero troubles. I would purchase extra warrantyjust due to the fact that any parts for recreation are not cheap. So it could be money well spent. Also know that all extended warranty that is sold the dealer makes a percentage. So they may cut you a deal on the ext warranty.

Can-Am's 650 will have plenty of power but, I would spend the extra $1k for the 800.
