Southern Lower Michigan | Yesterday I puled out my Ford 8830 to topdress my wheat. Everything worked as it should. Backed out of the barn, and pulled up to the incline by the other barn to change the pto. went to shift into reverse, and nothing happened?? Shifted to foward , and back into reverse again, shifted like it should. I changed the shaft, and went to the spreader, and it shifted from foward to reverse severan times, it shifted ok. spread the urea, ( the tractor would shift up, and down with no problem). After I unhooked I tried the reverse again, and it would not go into reverse. I tried cycling the shifter like the first time, and Nothing. It won't go into reverse.
It shows no codes, and when I move thew shifter to reverse, indicator is blank ( no reverse and gear selection as it should have).
Where do I start looking? I did a quick look under the cab, at the connections there, and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

WC IL | It could be one of the shift solenoids, on the right side behind the step. I think there are 3 or 4 of them. I had one go bad on a 8730 and it wouldn't do anything, had to put it in limp mode to get to the shed. It just quit working after I got out of the tractor to answer nature's call. Can't remember how I diagnosed it, but I remember I called a friend with a service manual to figure it out. Seems like maybe we used an ohmmeter to diagnose it. If that is what it is, not too bad to fix, seems like the solenoid was around $200. Seems like the gear indicator on mine went blank also. Good luck. |

Auxvasse, MO | You need a service manual. There is a computor board that is in the shiffeter Had it break had to replace it, also had to send the transmission commad modual in for repair ,i would stop and back up shift to go forward again it would show a solenoid code and not move. I would turn the key off ane reset it and it would work for a while again. |
