Saronville NE | How are Sterling trucks? This would be a truck with a box, that we would use for silage, hauling our own distillers, grain, and for hauling manure to farther away farms. Will have a steel box with silage endgate in it. How do they hold up? Good and bad of em? Small Cat motor, 6 spd tranny. |

NW Washington | Freightliner/Mercedes bought out the Ford heavy truck line and called them Sterlings and now I am pretty sure the Sterling line has been discontinued. So I think you will be buying an orphan. |

| I've got a 2000 Sterling dump truck .
It turns very well
Almost drove the FLD 120 in the ditch last summer because it does NOT turn well
Just was too use to how the Sterling turned and the FLD got up to the stops and that the way it was
I was already wide because of the long trailer and a narrow driveway !!
Local Freightliner dealer has the small parts ,the big parts are out there in the large aftermarket stores
Cat ,Eaton ,Rockwell ,Dana ,Goodyear Firestone for the drive line

| It should be a good truck, as they all use common drivelines. Not sure about the 6 sp. trans. and how that would work in soft fields and on the road. |

Sibley county Minesota | All Sterling is a body and name pretty much any other truck. I have a 2002 the only good thing hate which is a good thing is the cab is sealed to good when anybody rides along I have to roll the drivers window down or they do not get the passenger door shut. |

Jefferson MA | Neighbor has one that he uses for hauling silage. Custom steel box with Hyd end gate.
I drive it some every year for him and sometimes borrow it to haul hay.
Seems to be a fine truck. Has the auto trans which I don't care for much. |

| Why did they quit the Sterling line ? I used to see several those trucks around, alot of them dump trucks, a few road tractors with day cabs. I guess what I want to know did the company not sell as many Sterlings as Freightliners ? |

ok | Like others have said, the main components aren't brand specific, as with most larger trucks. I strongly suggest you look into the parts that ARE sterling specific. There is no "NEW" doors to be found period. We run over 30 of these trucks. I have a 2002 model sterling which the passenger side door was side swiped by a semi destroying the door. The door posts both front and back are virtually untouched. I have been waiting for almost 4 months now for a door. Any other name brand is required to keep parts for there vehicles for at least 5 years or until aftermarket parts are made available. NOT THE CASE WITH STERLING!. This is on a sterling 2.5 ton single axle dump truck.

SW OH | The truck itself is cheap and chincy. We have 20 or so Sterling straight trucks at work and they all have major problems with the dash breaking apart. Last fall my circut breaker/fuse panel broke out and hit the floor. $2400 to replace. They all have issues with the plastic parts in the cab. They don't make them anymore so now we buy Freightliners which are worse. Our fuel truck that only has 30,000 miles on it has had a new dash and 2 new door panels already. My truck is on of 2 2004 Acterras both of which have C-7s that have both thrown a rod around 200,000 miles. Ours have allison autos, but 6 speeds are ok................Mitchco |

Elizabethtown,KY | I have an '02 model LT9500 twin screw with a 20' Scott bed and hoist, C10 Cat and Merritor 10 speed, will soon have it for 4 years, have only had to put in a new heater core and put in a new improved metal piece in the dash around the parking brake valve. As another poster said the cab is so tight that I can't shut the doors without rolling down a window a little. I'd just as soon drive it as my Pete as it is easier to get in and out of, and there is more leg room, since I'm 6'4" tall that is a big plus. I wouldn't be scared to buy another one. |

E.Central MN | I thought about buying one that was a rollover, the seller already had a decent used cab, but thought about it too long and somebody else got it. Around here the state and county's ran a lot of Sterlings for their plow dump trucks so there should be some hitting the salvage yards, volume always helps when it comes to finding used parts. |
