West Central Wisconsin | I have an Eaton FRO-15210C in my '02 Mack that when it shifts from high to low range there is some serious clunking. I drove a friends 13 speed this last fall for him and am thinking it might better suit me and thinking instead of fixing this trans maybe put that money towards a 13 speed. He thought I might be able to convert my 10 to a 13 but when Googling I found out I might not be able to. Anyone know for sure? Not ready to do anything just yet but would like as much info as possible. TIA Joe

Central ND | I am no expert but any means but I have always been lead to believe that you could not change a 10 into a 13 speed, certain 9 speeds yes, but not 10's. I could be wrong though and somebody on here will definately know.

Western IL | No,none of the FRO Series were convertible because all the FRO series are 10 speeds, Eaton does make a convertable trans,9 speed to 13spd but they are the reg RT series trans. They FRO series are an all metric trans of there own breed,no parts interchange to RT series or vise versa

SE Mo | If I'm understanding, are you going to change or fix the one you have even if you stay with your 10 speed. If you are changing, why couldn't you put a 13 in other than possibly driveshaft length, or is it that a 13 will not bolt up. JUST ASKING

David Loberg Northeast Nebraska | We had the same FRO in our 06 Kenworth...a few gears were wore to the point that it would pop out under load. Went to price fixing it, like mentioned above, its a weird metric breed. The parts were ridiculous for it, and you still ended up with a 10 speed. We swapped an RTLO into it, and haven't looked back. The RTLO has a low gear which is great getting going out of fields. By time we traded the FRO for the RTLO, we had about 4500 wrapped into it. That included the new shifter head, and shortening and rebalancing the driveshaft, the trannies are different lengths.

West Central Wisconsin | If I can't convert my present 10 to a 13, which it sounds like I can't, and if the trans has to come out to fix the high to low issue then, yes, I would like to put in a 13 speed at that time. Also discovered loose starter bolts. One missing, one stripped and one I can't budge. As a bonus there is also a chunk of the bellhousing broke out, apparently from the starters nose cone. Life is good! Joe

10 speeds were not convertible. Only certain 9's were that I'm aware of. I don't see any reason you can't just stick a 13 of the correct torque rating in there. Just be sure to match up the housings correctly... There are various input shaft sizes depending on torque rating... so get the right one. Rod
