I need to be able to lift the hitch on my planter in transport position to create more clearance on the front units so they don't drag when I go into a field from a road grade or across a ditch. The planter is a 24 row draw bar hitch, I'm considering making a 3 pont hich attatchment to which I can pin the planter hitch that would normally pin to the drawbar and raise the front end. Does onyone know if someting like this is available commercially or where I might see something to get some ideas?

Floyd County, Iowa | Cat I might be a bit light for a 24 row planter.

This thing is very heavy cat 3 it requires a heavy duty draw bar.

I saw a 1790 that had a different cylinder mounted on the drawbar hitch, (was painted yellow and was a bolted type cylinder rather than the factory green/black welded ones, don't know if something happened to the orginal but it appeared much longer and thus you could extend the hitch into a much straighter position, thus raising the units at least a little don't know if it was why they did it or not but would be something you could check into. Something like this?? Cat IV pins, with Cat IV drawbar too. The tractor can run out of power before you would even start bending the thing. Or the welds on the drawbar would go.... I dunno. This thing was experimental, but with a little bit more engineering and money on it, it could do what you want. Only thing to consider however is that the hitch will try to turn CW, so a major part of the load could be transferred to the top link (A-frame on the hitch would need some beefing up...).

Brazilton KS | If you have negative tongue weight at any stage of lift it will get rather interesting. We wanted to do this but figured out it wouldn't work in time.

Correct. In my case it worked because tongue load (+ or -) was rather minimal compared to pull. Double acting 3 point hitch like Fendt's would work better on this.

W.C. Mo. | Maybe I don't understand but my older front fold planter is 2 pt hookup. Attach to quick hitch, set lower depth for planting level, and raised position for transport. Would it be too big of a job to build a 2 pt h bar that would hook to the planter hitch?

South Texas | Copied these pics from Moore-Built's website. They use them for their front fold planter bars - would probably sell you one... http://www.moore-built.com/frontfoldingtoolbars.php (3pnt%20hitch2.jpg) (3Point%20Hitch1.jpg) (3pnt%20hitch1.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 3pnt%20hitch2.jpg (43KB - 371 downloads) 3Point%20Hitch1.jpg (48KB - 388 downloads) 3pnt%20hitch1.jpg (83KB - 394 downloads)

Eastern Ontario | I got mine from Kearneys (www.kearneyplanters.com). It's the wil-kea hitch that used to, or maybe still is availible through SI Dist and it's built to just hook on the lower links. Think it comes with catII/catIII pins, but I got mine made with just catIII pins instead of the stepped ones. I can get a pic later if you want.....
