Got my mind up for a paint color in my kitchen.....I'm strongly about going with burnt orange paint of some sorts

http://www.dutchboy.com/colors/families/oranges/agreeable/index.jsp

I like Dutch boy paint.....

Is this to strong of a color for a kitchen? I don't know....I really don't like picking this stuff out myself : ^ S

Just looking for some opinions and ideas?

Thanks!

Orange is nice. Was really popular in the 70s.

I've looked at burnt orange for 15 years and Im SICK OF IT!  There are 40000000000 miles of burnt orange countertops in my house, and the kitchen wallpaper is cream background with burnt orange chickens and wheat shocks.

Maybe burnt orange was nice 26 years ago when Marge built the house.....but this owner is tired of looking at it.  (Plowboy says "It is still in good condition....why change"?)

Good luck in your decision.

Good luck getting the color that you really want. I allowed by husband to pick out the first color giving his burnt orange shirt as an example and the sample matched the shirt but on the walls it looked like AC orange. So I went and picked another color that looked more "burnt" than the previous one and repainted the room. It turned out more like Mexican Restaurant orange. Neither one got me the color I had in my head..... But have decided if the next one on the way is a boy, he is going to have a room decorated in AC stuff!!

I'm like Plowboy. If there wasn't a fire why change it. My wife started putting up color patches. I learned real quick to just take down the ones I didn't like. She paints, I keep my mouth shut. Why not bring home some counter samples and post a note of when the contractors will be there. It got me off my butt.

We went with orange in our kitchen and we like it, will look even better when we get the cupboards painted white and the rest of the kitchen done.  This is the only picture I can find of our's and it was right after we started remodeling.

Maybe buy one of those pint "sample" cans. That way you don't have so much invested and get a big enough area covered to get an idea if you really like it or not. I had in my head a "dusty rose" color for my living room once, but on the walls it was more hot pink. I hated it, but with all the wood trim in the room I wasn't enthused about repainting. Stuck it out about 6 years, but still cringe when I see photos of the room then

Friends wife made them an AC room. She used one shade of orange at the top, one and the bottom and glazed them together in the middle. I like shades of orange, but don't know if I'd like it in a kitchen myself. On the if it ain't broke don't fix it side of things. My G-Grandma and her husband built a house in the mid 60's. That was the only time he ever let her paint it, and she died 7-8 yrs ago. That's one of the few things she ever spoke poorly about him. Paint is cheap, life is short, if she wants it painted, let her paint it.

We have a burnt orange color in our kitchen and I really like it. Our cabinets are a dark color so it livens it up some. Wife found some curtains that are a black base with all different kinds of peppers and different colors of peppers. They look good.

Here's a webpage with lots of different kitchens in orange. It's european so they're a different style, but what's interesting is how is used. Is it on the wall, on the cabinets, how much etc. Just thought there might be some ideas.

I vote NO, wouldn't find it agreeable at all. You just can't go wrong with off-white imho.
But, its your house not mine. Paint away!

Benjamin Moore's website has an application which allows you to paint your room on-line with a personal color viewer. Paint is cheap enough, but it's a lot of work. This feature allows you to see how the color would look on your walls without having to dip a brush.

I painted my kitchen and adjoining dining room last January. I did not warm up to the color, and so I re-did the rooms last month. Had I know about this feature, I could have saved myself a ton of work!

Although orange is not my choice, it is cheerful. We were at a Farmer's Wives appreciation evening just last week, and the designer was showing the latest in colors for home decor. The newest was a shade of orange, I can't recall the name, but I think there was "citrus" in the name. And I believe it was Benjamin Moore as well.

Good luck!

Blooming where I am planted!

Yes!  I love orange as a paint color!  Go for it!  Be careful though--as much as you might love orange as I do, it can be too "hot" on the eyes if used on too many surfaces.  If you think I have a point, my suggestion would be to 1) either use it just on the backsplash and small wall areas, 2)  go lighter, like the Apricot Nectar color from Glidden I used on an accent wall in my Wisconsin kitchen (I can tell you from looking at a link online that the color is much more orangey but light & bright than it appears on the screen--and you can get an 8 oz tester of this color), or 3) balance it with either earth tones or cooler colors like green, blue, or grey, cream or even white so the eye has a resting place in the room.

My wife painted one wall in this color as the "accent" wall and balanced the other three walls with an earthy tone. She gets tons of compliments on the burnt orange wall but it is not overpowering the room. We like it, and if we grow tired of it, we'll repaint it. I don't understand why a wife can't change the colour of a room if she wants to! It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission sometimes in some households I would imagine and like Buster50 says "If momma ain't happy, nobody is happy!"

You can get large color sample sheets too so the lighting effects can be determined; we had 3' square color patches for one job.

Kim, look into epoxy treatments for your counter top.....

Can't remember if you have a square edge or rounded, but if you have square you're set, put an Oak trim board all the way around with like an 1/8 inch lip. Then mix up your epoxy and pour it in....hopefully you can a Color you like....

We have a pro that does it here...
