What are the good and bad about 2670s
Would be used as a grain cart tractor , some plowing
5-20 bottoms, maybe as planting tractor 16/31 kinze so no high
hyd required. Would it work as a sherdding tractor with out duals?
They seem as lot cheaper than mfds in the higher hp class .
What are your thoughts?

I have worked around them some, and I really like the new generation case tractors. 70 + series. They are so simple to work on compared to the 8000 Deere 4 wd that it is almost not a fair comparison. Deere's had a faulty engine plaguing them throughout life. Some people beat the dead horse of the case power shift being junk but there sure is a lot of case tractors doing field work every year and I have never had a case power shift apart. But I have had several Deere 8 and 15 speeds apart as well as the power quads in the small frame tractors. I have spent some seat time in a 4890 and a 4894 and I can honestly tell you I really enjoy running them, plenty of power and good cab. Jon

Run away. They are blow up and are expensive to repair. The crab steer mechanisim will likely not work correctly and the transmission is extremly rough.

There is a reason that they are much cheaper than a FWA

The crab steer is interesting, Grain cart tractor good. Planter tractor not so fun. I have a 2470 and thought about it but the steering can be out of wack some times. The hydralic clutch on them can be a pain for backing up.

I knew before reading the responses to this question that most of the feedback would be negative. People love to bash the crab steer Cases. We have had a 2670 for 12 years now and it hasn't been any more trouble than any of our other tractors. As far as the power shift, no problems here at all. One thing that helps is we leave it in the same gear most of the time when doing tillage instead of constantly lugging it down and shifting under a heavy load. As long as you remember these are a 200 hp tractor and not a 300 plus hp tractor you will be ahead of the game. For a tillage and grain cart work I would think they are a cheap option for sure. $5000-$7500 or so in this area probably around $10,000 or so for the 90 series version 4690. Ours does what we want it to and will continue to until it dies for good. Where else can you get 200 hp 4 wd for that kind of money. Do what works for you.

What do you mean by crab steer? What years were those made? Did Case have their own engine in those tractors? Is the transmission a true powershift? I've never been around one of these tractors before as you can tell.

Crab steer is basically 4 wheel steering. These tractors are a rigid frame, that is they do not bend in the middle like other brands. The wheels turn in pairs. The front axle always steers and you can have the rear wheels steer in sync with the front for a much sharper turn, or you can disengage the rear wheels and only steer with the front. I believe the crab term comes from the fact that you can steer the front wheels one way and turn the rear wheels another with a different lever. I have not found a use for this way of steering. In the field I just leave it in 4 wheel sync steering most of the time.

The 2670 used the Case 504 engine with a turbo and intercooler. The power shift is 4 speed gearbox with a 3 speed powershift giving you 12 speeds. I think they started the 70 series 4wd in '72. '72-74 were the tan colored paint and '74-78 were white paint. Mine in the picture is a '75. They changed to the 90 series in '78-82 and 94 series from then until the merger with IH in '85 or so and then were discontinued somewhere in that time frame.

If in good shape, it wouldn't be bad for you. Check to see how it starts, how badly it smokes when throtteled up (they all do by now, just depends how much), and find someone who knows about the steering and make sure it is ok. You can buy cab interior kits for them still as unless the previous owner replaced his, they will need this done.

Bad parts are slow road speed (especially if it has 24.5-32 singles), no lights in the front grill (unless you put them on yourself) and the engine in the tractor is the same as the one in the smaller 2470, this one just has a turbo added, some might be spooked by that.

I just got a 2670, I know very little about it. The only thing wrong with it is the crab steer doesn't work. Do u know what it might be wrong with it. I got it to grade my lane and pull logs
