Subject: Deere parts vs Shoup

I need to put all new split bushing and also the solid bushings in the shank pivot on a JD 2200 field culitvator Deere gets 26.10 total for two (maybe get another 10% for paying cash)and Shoup gets 12.28 are they the same I have ordered parts from Shoup before and have always been happy, assuming these would be no different, they probally get them from the same source as Deere for all I know, guess I am just wondering if anyone as rebushed a FC with parts from Shoup's and were they as good of quality parts as Deere. i suppose it is hard to know for sure unless you do a side by side comparison. i have had good experience with shoup parts, so i would go for it. even if they don't make it quite as long, that might be long enough.

Just purchased Cyl. Bars for our 9500 (chrome) Guy that works on our equip. use to work for JD said why pay the higher price . JD probably get's them from the same china business Shoup does. Shoups comes with all the bolts, JD was extra!!

I just ordered the bushings and sleeves to repair all of the press and closing wheel pivots on our 1890 from Shoup. I had them ordered from JD and then went home and checked with Shoup. The sleeves were $19.99 and $17.99 a piece from JD and $9.99 and $9.75 from Shoup. That is nearly $1000 on one order. I just can't convince myself that JD parts are that much better than what we can get from Shoup.

If you've already got them worn out on a cultivator that new Deere's quality must have gone in the crapper anyway.  We replaced the shanks on our 1986 1050 about three or four years ago because the bushings and eyes were finally worn out.....after countless tens of thousands of acres use.

i've replaced JD parts with shoup parts and after looking at some of the parts, shoups are EXACTLY the ame as deere's.. couldn't believer how many combine idlers even had same manfacturers part numbers... Royally GRAWLIXES me when ask the local JD parts guys how come so much more $$$ for their parts, and response in shoup has inferior parts, i chuckle and show them the identical part numbers.. guess they all sell the same inferior parts just someone is making ALOT on them...

I guess I just thought the shank's seemed loose maybe I need to put in a new set on one shank and see if they are any better, maybe they have always been like this, it is hard to tell though as the way the spring is mounted there is always pressure on the shank/bushing until you put the tool on the spring head and take the tension off, the FC is a 34.5' that 9 years old and has probally averaged about a 1000 acres a year. I split a planter years ago, half Deere, half Shoup....seed and fertilizer disks..............the only difference was the price.

They wore the same.

Couple of years ago I completely rebuilt an IH 800 planter. Got all the parts from Shoup. A lot of them had the Case IH emblem and part # on them. I was told from a head Shoup guy that they try to buy directly from manufacturer if they can work out an attractive price. Don't know for sure on Deere parts. But Shoup's parts seem to be good.

Dennis one thing i'd ckeck first is that your pivot bolts are tight first. Some have been known to work loose causing the shank to have side play. I have the old 980 135 lb shanks and they have side play even after new bushings :(. I haven't seen yet the 150 and 200 lb shanks have side play unless the bushing are worn

One note. I bought 7 sweeps for ours from Shoup and they wouldn't work properly. I found they were made with the wrong pitch and wouldn't enter the ground. Ended up putting two 7/16 flat washers under top sweep bolts and then they'd work good, kinda PIA!! I like using Shoup parts when possible because they are economical sometimes compared to OEM, but you do have to watch what you buy because in some of my past experience's they're not a perfect match. IMO this case they weren't

Rebuilding a new to me 1780. Got it home and it is in tough shape. Moving the units out to 20" rows to plant beans only. Looking over the planter units I found that all the guage wheel arms need replacing. Deere's price $103/row Sloan Express price $38/row. I couldn't believe it when I saw that. Needless to say I bought from sloan.
