Central Nebraska | The thread a couple days ago concerning AGCO dealerships got me thinking about their tractors. I considered buying a Challenger wheel tractor last fall, but didn't. I won't be looking for another tractor for a few years probably, but I'm thinking I might like to try something else next time. I see you can get AGCO and Challenger tractors pretty cheap compared to Deere and Magnums as far as power and hours go. Why is that? Are they expensive to work on? I'm just curious is all, not looking for a brand war here. I love my Deeres, but they're pretty dang expensive comparatively. Dealer support for anything other than Deere or Case IH is not very good here, though. I think I'd look good in an orange tractor... A Challenger 765 would be alright, too.

Ontario Canada | PeteMN - 1/12/2012 20:19 Who was the idiot that thought that idea up....was it CAT or AGCO? That was Cat. They will not release the 'key' to their software (Cat Powered.), and that will cost them. Can't put a CVT behind the CAT, as AGCO could not program the trans to communicate with the engine, probably want AGCO to use a Cat trans... The 700D are SISU powered with the 8.4L, as will be the 800D/900D ( second pic down... http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=276603&posts=3... ) I think the 700D will be released this spring. Look for CVT to follow soon after. Edited by WillB 1/12/2012 20:35

EC Indiana | We have had and continue to have good service from our (orange) Agco tractors. We have 3 good dealers within a 100 mile radius. I still struggle driving past 2 Deere and 2 Case dealers on our way to our Agco dealer. The older series DTs, challengers, or 8400 Masseys are very good tractors, but in my opinion, don't quite messure up to the deere 8*10/20 series. For me, it comes down to value I guess. I believe I can get alot more tractor for less money with the route we have chosen. Now with the new series Agco line, that is a different story. It is not unreasonable to make a case that they have the best tractor in current production. So for 15-25% less money, you can have a top of the line tractor. For this to work though, you have to have a great relationship with a dealer. They can be 200 miles away, but they better be darn good.

SE Nebr | I strongly agree with 5299 on both the quality of Agco's current lines (at least as good as anyone's) and that you need to have a competent dealer. If you have the right dealer, Agco is an excellent value.

Southeast Florida | I always thought I wanted yellow tractors until I had one. TJG in MS told me to just go bend over and grab may ankles to get rid of it; and it was worse than that! I had a low hour 555B with Auto Shift that sold for $30K finally. Needless to say I have all green tractors now and couldn't be happier with my service and not having to tape a $5 bill to the hood to create some body’s interest in looking at it.

Seneca Kansas 66538 | I had issues with my Trimble FMX monitor trying to operate my liquid blocks controlling the starter fertilizer. My AGCO dealer spent four days from morning till evening working on this monitor (as well and being on the phone non stop with Trimble) trying to get it to do what Trimble claimed it would do. Mid season a Trimble rep finally shows up after I just plumbed it so I had on and off capabilites. My point is that my AGCO dealer supported me trying to help get this system to work while Trimble basically told them everything in the monitor is correct and it should work. When I finally started talking about a lawyer I got to see a Trimble rep. Personally I cant thank my dealer enough for always trying their best to help me with any issues. I definately enjoy running our Agco tractors with CVT transmissions, they are amazing compared to a powershift. I run an Eagle ditcher and it was always a pain trying to get the right speed so it would operate correctly, but with the CVT I can operate it perfectly. Since we arent going to have Allis orange anymore I am trying to figure out which color I like better Massey red or Challenger yellow since all the wheel tractors are the same besides the color. I kind of like the Challenger color but the Masseys look great too. (pulled_image_81.jpg) Attachments ---------------- pulled_image_81.jpg (56KB - 774 downloads)

Modena, Wisconsin | If you have a dealer nearby go with the Fendt. They are the best of the bunch. The new vario terminal with touch screen is nice.

East Prairie, MO | So who can work on the Massey? Been working on a trade possibly on an 8680 w/cvt and suspended front axle and cab. Sure a nice looking tractor but later on will any agco dealer be able to work on it? We have a new Cat ag dealer opening locally now but also have a Massey dealer 40 miles from here.

Modena, Wisconsin | With Massey any AGCO dealer should be able to do it except for some dealers that are CAT only. 8680 is a good tractor. I rented an 8660 for a few days and was happy with how it worked. Great transmission and nice cab. Easy on fuel and rode nice.

East Prairie, MO | This new dealer will also have Challenger and the combines so I guess that says they are not Cat only. I never thought I would be interested in a Massey at all but I have a friend who has one and loves it, tranny is proven for sure. I hear the TopCon display leaves something to be desired. All that suspension (cab and axle) has to be comfy. Almost have myself talked into it LOL!

Always had good luck with the older white agco tractors, have 2- 6125MFWD white chorin tractors 2-105&2-155, big horses are steiger 9390, J.D. 8870, 8400, 7250 magnum. love all these tractors, probably junk in some peoples eyes older machinery, but our dealers always took care of us! outside of one Agco dealership in central nebraska, Osceola implement, which I don't recommend at all, want a rail job, you'll get it there!! Westpoint Implement in Columbus has always been good to us for repair work when I myself didn't have time for it in the repair shop, They are a top notch Case-IH&Agco dealship, Brought us out a new massey to use last year when one of our 6125's went down on the feed wagon, smaller tractor here mind you, that was a sweet little 115hp tractor, wouldn't be afraid to own that new little massey either really nice features, quite cab, nice ride, servicableable points easy to acess, very fuel effecient engine, way cheaper than a new J.D. of similar hp. I guess its gonna be your call here! A piece of machinery is only as good as the dealer servicing it!

Central Nebraska | Thanks for all the replies. I was just curious as there really isn't anyone in this area that doesn't run red or green. Osceola Implement would be our closest dealer, but Columbus isn't that much further. I would've gone with a Challenger, but since NMC decided to do away with ag, I decided against it.

Brazilton KS | Are you saying that Cat ET will communicate with a Challenger tractor? I'll be surprised, but it will sure be handy for me if you are right.

Modena, Wisconsin | Not sure if all Cat dealers have laptop that will work with Challenger machines or if it is ag dealer specific. I have a Challenger that is AGCO and the normal AGCO laptops will not work on it, I need to get things done by a Challenger dealer.

Brazilton KS | I'd have less trouble believing that there are different passcodes for each brand, but I'm having a hard time believing that my AGCO dealer carries around one computor for Challenger, another one for Massey, another one for Gleaner, another one for AgChem, etc etc....and I have a real hard time believing that Cat ET is going to work on a Challenger tractor....but if it will, that's definitely useful information I would like to be aware of.

Modena, Wisconsin | The same one will do Massey and Gleaner. There was a software change that meant a new laptop for recent stuff like the 86xx tractors and 77 combine so even standard AGCO dealers have to carry more than one. I think Challenger and AGChem will also work together.I am trying to find out now if thea laptop for a non ag Cat dealer will work on a Challenger.

Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle | Ben, We run all agco equipment. although it is all older Whites and Olivers we do alot of business with both Osceola equip and Hillbills Diesel in Spalding. We have nothing but good things to say about Todd in Osceola and Mark in Spalding. Both will treat you right and very fair. Hillbills doesnt do anything with the Cat tractors but do have the Masseys. Our email is in the profile if you would like to discuss it more.

I didn't know there was a dealer in Spalding. I haven't been up that way for awhile. I'm not looking to buy anything at this time, just curious about Agco stuff.

Brazilton KS | I am not aware of Cat using anything other then ET for anything in the last ten-fifteen years. I will be surprised if ET is compatible with any AGCO equipment, but not saying it isn't possible. It is compatible with Cat-branded telehandlers built by JLG.

NC KS | I have been out of the loop for a few months now but the Cat software was needed on the tracked tractors for engine and transmission although the tractor monitor would report codes. Wheeled tractors needed Agco software. Newest diagnostic computer was a Windows tablet that cost dealers a good chunk. I think they were trying to make it backwards compatabile by expensive cables and software. The brand new tracked tractors with SISU power probably changed the diagnostic work to the newer Agco system.

East Prairie, MO | Well, I went and drove the 8680 today. REALLY nice tractor with a few little issues, the top of the cab leaks enough that the headliner was wet and the climate control system wasn't working. Those I'm sure can be fixed under warranty. BUT, the one thing that can only be fixed with money is that Chincy, Cheap looking Top Con X45 monitor! Couldn't hardly read it, terrible screen! Why on earth would a company put out a quarter of a Million dollar tractor with a cheap looking monitor like that to control the autosteer? I did some research and found out Topcon has a $3395 upgrade and they will trade you out of the x45 for the x30. Anyone run the x30? How is it? I know it sounds stupid but that cooled me on the tractor a little, dealer actually got right on the money and I'm hoping will help with the monitor upgrade if I do the deal. I stopped by the JD dealer on the way home and checked out a 1 yr. old 8310R with ILS and 400 hrs. and only $6,000 higher than that Massey, if they will give me the same money for my trade as the other place this will be a non issue. $6,000 to put me in a Deere like that is a no brainer for me even if with the CVT in the Massey....
