MTU Freidrichshafen made and marketed the ag and industrial duty engines under the Mercedes brand for quite a few years.  It was owned by Tognum AG since 2006.  But then in 2011 Daimler and RollsRoyce decided to buy Tognum, effectively bringing back the MTU/Mercedes industrial engines back with its former owners.  However Tognum had announced it would rebrand all the Mercede-branded engines to MTU... I don't know what will happen with that.

Anymore pics of the Challenger SP sprayer? Looks impressive albeit VERY expensive . Also the new Claas high HP tractors, with European width restrictions is this tractor targetted at the North American market or European. Seems like it would be a real challenge to transfer all that power the ground if width restrictions limit the use of dual tire setups.

First of all, thanks Nic for the great pictures. Still hope to go there sometime when live is not as busy with little kids!

Seems that these days you can buy 2 tractors. It can be heavy and long, with a big cab and long skinny hood. It will run down 30" rows on row crop tires and with duals or even triples it will be wide.
Or you can buy a shorter, lighter tractor with more driving comfort down the road. The hood will be shorter, but also wider. Row crop tires at 60" are not possible, but with some wide tires it will still go down the road well.

Of course there are Farmers in NA that like the euro tractors, but that is usually because they spend more time on the road with them.

John Deere has the definately more euro 7R and case only sells the small frame magnums in north America and a CVX in Europe. Seems fendt and claas are not taking the NA market very serious...

I think AGCO seems to be taking NA fairly seriously....they are moving the NA tractors to the AgChem/Challenger plant.   The Fendt design doesn't really fit the NA market, so there is no reason to try to sell something that doesn't really work...just put the tech in the tractors which fit here.

I think Claas is scared of getting overextended trying to bring a product they lack experience with to a market they lack experience with.  Probably a reasonably wise decision for them to take it slow.

A quick calculation while reading your post makes me think that the Claas Axion 900 tractors will fit in 60" rows.  Not completely sure but I think it would be physically possible when looking at the tractor stats.  Also the Axion has a 4" longer wheel base than a Deere 8R, and weighs only 1200 lbs less than the Deere.
