| Are the Case IH MX, MXM and Maxxum pretty good tractors? Any major issues with them? Thanks |

| MXs were very good tractors and then they went downhill from there after they went to the MXMs and the Maxxums. A former dealer mechanic who I trust very well and who has lots of experience with those tractors told me that if I ever bought a MXM he would quit talking to me and that we would be better off putting money into our 15,000 hour 5140 than "upgrading" to anything newer than an MX series in the Case IH lineup. He said that they pretty well worked through the electrical problems the MXMs had early on but now they are seeing alot of mechanical problems and that they just aren't built as heavy as the old Maxxums were. |

Saronville NE | Ive heard the same as Cliff, our 5250 has been pretty bullet proof, just little things, I think in 2k hrs, I have owned the tractor would be hardpressed to have spent $5k on it, its been PTO seals, pressure sensors on the tranny, have put bout 6 of them on, a bearing went out in a front axle pivot, a a couple oil leaks thats it. Got a neighbor with a MXM190, that they bought new, it has bout 3k hrs on it, he told me they have spent more money on it since warranty has been up, then there 7120, 8930, and 5088 alltogther after 6-7k hrs a piece on them, the 5088 got traded for the MXM.
Buddy was telling me last nite, that there JD mechanic tells them the same thing, to stay with the late 00 and 10 series, anything after that is and has been trouble and more work to work on. |

East Central, Nebraska | I have an mx110, I have never had a 5xx0 caseih, from what I see though their are alot of similar features. I myself have also been looking for a MXM, but haven't found any deals. I have hear the pumas ride rough, but I can't imagine anything riding any rougher than my mx. The hydraulic levers are very cheap and flimsy, and I have started to have an electrical problem that I have not been able to figure out. My PTO just shuts off whenever it wants. I am sure all tractors have issues or none, You never know what your going to get, I am not afraid to buy another cih 120-150 hp tractor if I ever find one. Its funny you never hear anyone complaining about new holland tractors, but from what i have seen they are the same thing as the newer cih's. I know for a fact they are made in the same facility. |

West central IL | Are you better off to go to a kubota or something a little less expensive? Im in the same boat, gotta 5240, needs emergency brake replaced cause someone would never take the brake off as ha was driving it around and you have to split the tractor to do that and depending on parts your looking at 3 to 5 gs maybe. Just looking at a Kubota because of what some others and neighbors have said about them, alot cheaper no frills loader tractor |

Lakeville, MN | You Can buy a Case IH tractor with the MX infront of the number and be very happy with it but you dont want any other letters with it. |

I assume you have adjusted it.??
We had the same problem with 5250, you can tighten it up under the cab. |

Northern CA | I used to own a 5240 tractor. It was one of the worst tractors I've ever owned. I switched to a Kubota tractor, and have never been happier. I can't say enough good things about switching away from the tractors made in France, to the tractors made in Japan and assembled in the United States. |

So. IL | Had a years old MXM125 that had about 375 hours on it, and it got stuck in 3rd gear and we could not get it out. Dealer made it right and traded us a new MXM125 with the powershift, has about 50 hours on it and so far so good. |

South central Illinois | so you are saying stay away from a MXU |
West central IL | Yes its been set, I even moved it passed the nut to make it tighter. My mech guy says stay away from the mxu's as well |
| Pretty sure none of the Maxxums were ever built in France, some where built in Germany and some in England but that's it as far as I know. |
South-central Nebraska | Mine came from England. Researched this topic a few times over the past year and the results were more positive as these Maxxums were/are pretty bullet proof, aside from a few small quircks. I was told to stay away from the red panited New Hollands? MXU I think? |
South central Illinois | mxu or jxu? I was told JX from Turkey, MXU from Italy, Maxxum England |
South-central Nebraska | mxu, the J series is smaller I think. |
Northern CA | The 5240 tractor that I owned, said "Maxxum" above the grill, and the tag on the tractor, with the name, model number, and serial number, said "J. I. Case Corporation. Assembled in France." When the injection pump on the Cummins engine failed at around 4300 hours, our local diesel shop said that the pump was an agriculture pump common on overseas tractors, but not like a standard 5.9 Cummins industrial application engine normally found in the US. They had all the parts in stock for the common pumps, but the parts I needed were five days away. |

Central Alberta | "Assembled in France" Hmm... I'm not sure about tractors put together in a country where it's common to drink wine with every meal. |
