Alberta, Canada | Looking at upgrading our GPS equipment on our CASE iH equipment. Currently using just the WAAS based signal and being told by our dealer specialist that we would be satisfied with the subscription based OmniStar XP. Mainly used for seeding and spraying in the spring and then on the combine for harvesting and Field work in the fall. What are everyones' opinions on this signal and it's accuracy ? |

Erick, Ok | I'm interested to see what people have to say! We are the same, using WAAS on our older Case IH tractors (8950 and 7240). Im running raven Envizio pro with SmarTrax autosteer. |

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | I've used XP for two years. I use it for seeding, summer-fallow, and harvest. In that time, I had one instance where it jumped 18". Other than that I've never had to nudge during the days work. Some of my fields take 20 minutes to work one pass, so there can be 40 minutes of accumulated drift at the ends of the field. I may need to 'shift to here' at the start of the day but that isn't always necessary. I set my air-seeder to the exact width, chisel for fallow is set 12" narrower than the tool, combine is set 3" narrower. When using WAAS, I'd find myself doing the following: Look back, should I nudge?, look back, should I nudge?, look back, should I nudge?, look back, better nudge. Then go for a bit and repeat. I don't miss that routine at all. With the increased solar activity, I think many will be disappointed with WAAS during the coming year. |

| I have HP on all my CIH stuff. Love it! We cut all our corn this year by just driving where ever we wanted....I highly recommend Omnistar. |

NE South Dakota Clark, SD | Omni Star is a huge improvement over WAAS. I am almost to the point that if a customer is going to plant with the tractor, I will not sell them a WAAS system. Too many complains about wide/narrow guess rows at the end of the field. WAAS is going to drift, how much depends on the day. |
Chokio, MN | Yes to that! I will not sell WAAS to any of my customers that are wishing to run it on planting, seeding and spraying equip. And with the increased solar flares that were previously mentioned WAAS will be used less and less. |

| I use Omnistar. Biggest drawback is when/if you lose signal it takes 15 minutes before you get good convergence again. You mainly drop the signal because of trees. Also if you start your tractor and forget to wait for the quick restart and move the tractor the system will need to re-converge. |
| Yep, I'm in the same boat. No more WASS planting. |
| I use a planter and switched to HP last year from WASS I should have done it years ago a huge improvement just the convergence takes along time if I drive through trees etc.. but the accuracy is great would never go back to WASS |

East Prairie, MO | I use HP omnistar on the 500/ezsteer setup in my planter tractor and plant corn with it, Very happy with the accuracy, worth the upgrade. |

Springfield, MN | If RTx works out I may just use it this coming year. HP moved too much this past year. So then the advertised RTx may be tried with 1 1/2 " accuracy and very fast convergence. Plans may change but this is the way I am leaning now. |

Adams,MN | Why would you use Rtx when Rtk can be had for less? |
Springfield, MN | Can you give me the $$? I thought the startup was much higher for RTK. From what you are telling me I'll have to look into it further. |
| If you do omnistar do the GLONASS unlock too. Be able to find more satellites in a woods area. I would go RTK instead of RTX, 1 1/2" seems like would be a waste of money comparing to the expense of RTK. I'm pretty sure RTX is a little more expensive and is less accurate. I'd go with the 1" accuracy. |

| I farm in the hills and valleys, no RTK here.
I get along good with Omni. Have had it for 4 or 5 years. I went to a 24 row planter, it keeps you further away from tree lines when planting. Most of my dropped signals now are when travelling from field to field from roadside tree lines. |

| I have always been pleased with WAAS , until I "updated" my GPS equip , it is far worse in the same field than my older Outback's . Many times it will be off 18" pass to pass, I think it's the antennae , I often wonder if the Co's get a kick back from the subscription providers ? Seems the newer the GPS equip, the worse it works on a free signal.

| Kick back? Trimble now owns Omnistar ;-).
I tried WAAS before the purchase and still didn't like it. |

| There is a setting that you must have wrong. I thought the same thing until a tech came out and turned on the "quick start" or something like that. It takes about the same time to find the Omni now as to find the WAAS. UNLESS, like you said, you move it first...then you get a quick 15 minute nap! :) |

| Guys, and what about the price for XP subscription in the US ? we are Omni dealers in Europe, just received new prices for 2012, its terrible, much more expensively than this year. Maybe Euro currancy is the reason |

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | most of the time. I have had a few instances where even though I left the tractor sitting outside with a clear view of the sky, when I turned it on in the AM, it said fast restart failed and then I've had to wait for convergence. Also, if you duck behind trees or another obstruction and lose convergence, you'll normally be moving when that happens, so fast restart won't help a bit. If you park your machine in the shed, you'll wait for convergence. I have one fuel tank that sits close to a bunch of big trees. When I run my tractor up to the tank, the trees block signal and I don't get it back until I move away from the trees and there goes convergence. |

Adams,MN | Unlock the receiver for RTK and 1500$ per year. That is installed and comes with support. You can call if you want more info. 507-438-0186 |

| From the sounds of signal problems with the subscription , I'd have no service in about half the fields I apply , and waiting for service in the rest. No Thanks , I'll stick with WAAS. |

Springfield, MN | I was told a year of HP is $1600 and RTX is $1800.
So what is the new RTK? What equipment is needed for RTK? It should all be in the Trimble 750, at least that is what I am told. |

I would come unlock your 750 for Rtk ($4000 from WAAS). Put in an Intuicom modem and bill you yearly 1500$ for the lease on the bridge. That includes the data plan and set-up.

Springfield, MN | Thanks. I will save your data and see what happens. I don't have the 750 installed yet (its new). |
