1997 rogator rear wheel motor locking up, assume it is shot. Is there any alternative to the Agco new motor bend over route yet? Last one I had done a couple years ago there was no rebuilding them and the new one is pricey. This machine is in 4wd all the time.

Not cheap either way you go.

Does your Agco dealer handle parts? Our Cat dealer handles Rogators here. I called the Agco guys first, and they said, nope, call the Cat dealer b/c they handle the parts/service for the 'Gators here.

Are you sure it is the motor. I had trouble with my JD 6500 last Fall and it was the plantary gear drive the motor drives. I don't know what the Roator uses but it is probally a aftermarket part they just purchase to use on it. I was able to purchase a new unit for my JD from Auburn gear. The JD uses a Power wheel brand which Auburn Gear sells. I don't remember what other brands they handled but they have a webb site. I saved big money not Buying from JD.

If it (854) has around 5,000 hrs you can expect to start replacing all of them. I witnessed one lock up on the road. I can tell you it makes a very unique noise. Get the vaseline and bend over because as I recall a new one from AGCO (Cat) was our only option.

Those are usually Black Bruin motors. Try http://www.sampo-hydraulics.com/applications.htm or http://www.nahi.com/BB.pdf . Maybe the distributor is Northern Hydraulic or something close to that. Too many years have past since I was told who it was, sorry.

ended up getting a rebuilt wheel motor, still pretty salty but the last one I paid $7000 for and this one is $4150 if my core is good, new one is down to 6 grand now. Sure think there ought to be cheaper alternatives out there by now. thanks for all the replys.

Plus, the wheel motor configuration w/ a Rogator is the most efficient drive arrangement. Just not cheap to replace!

Phil, I have never been around a Rogator. How is it more efficient vs the Deere? What is different?

So far have never had to work on any of ours. But we never put more then 2500 hrs on them before we trade either.

Fixing to have a mint condition 4920 for sale with about 2500 hrs.

When I bought this sprayer 4710's were just coming out and a used 4700 would have cost me a good $20,000 over this 854. So I am still ahead in that department, not to mention a late 854 is in my opinion head and shoulders above a 4700 in performance. I hate the AGCO/Cat connection and would love to go to a deere now that they have some sprayers with good capacity, but now I can buy a sweet 1254 for way less than anything comparable with deere. If I didn't have a good independent shop to work on this and get parts from, I'd have to make the switch anyway just on principal. They were two grand cheaper on the wheel motor than my CAT dealer.

Careful. There's a reason why there are so many used (and cheap) 1254's on the market. I wouldn't use "sweet" and 1254 in the same sentence unless, of course, you think pigs are sweet.

You can find some advertised for 80k and up. Cheap is relative. In this case, it's relative to the cost of a new one. I still don't care for them; maybe we had a lemon.

Here are the problems we had:

Cab is noisy (bad resonance)
Wheel motors were high maintenance
Constant electrical problems from new

Basically, the machine was poor reflection of what we are trying to accomplish in our business and may have cost us business.

No, it isn't just you. It is known industry wide, that the 1254 had lots of wheel motor problems. A couldn't afford to run one, if it was given to me.
