Subject: track tractor sprayers

Plattsville, Ontario
im seriously considering trading my 4710 sp sprayer (800gal< 90ft) for track machine(8420t) with mounted boom(120ft+). we can use another tractor, and I need more flotation for spraying. what is the max capacity i can put in inboard tanks?
Ive been reading previous posts on self propelled vs mounted track units and it seems that those who have them (the tracks) really like them....
Im really just trying to justify another tractor, and if i can trade the sprayer, but not give up much productivity..... am i thinking clearly??

I wouldn't put a boom on 8520T though, those things a rough and would destroy a boom in no time. I'd look at an mt challenger or rt John Deere.

I sprayed with a 8300T for a year or two. It was OK but we farm on rows for irrigation and the track would tear up the beds. I finally went to a 4710 and glad we did. The SP is so much smoother than the tracks and you can spray so much more in a day with it. I don't regret going to the sprayer over the tracks. You will get to needing to spray and the tractor will be in the field working and just say I will spray later. I don't regret going to the SP.

I would agree withPDF, most guy's that have used tracks to spray with are area have quit using them, you would be stepping backwards IMO.

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

Problem around here for the last three years..........so much rain in spring that needed pontoons.........not enough time between rains for ground to dry totally.

In those situations, I would guess that tracks might get you into the field a day or two earlier-------- am I correct?

Or, at least being able to cross waterways without sinking out of sight..........

bought a hagie. Dad and brother liked the sp better. I would've kept the track because I have a couple wetter fields where it is very nice. 8420t

Slicker than a Yes album.
Yes, could go quicker and through stuff that would bury an SP unless it was empty and on floaters.

Another long time poster on here can confirm this, he was going a lot last year when N Iowa was underwater.

If you are going old hard ride style, you will only have 950 capacity. The 2009 and 2010 RT's have 1050 capacity. The Tier IV RT's are back down to 925 gallons.

Fasts boom is built to help minimize the swing and jerk of a track tractors motions. We had very few probs when we ran that one. New design is a bit stronger, but lighter due to the bridge design. They have quite a few of them out here.

The tractor is sitting around during the summer anyway, so a way to get use out of it. If we needed to do preplant, it's not the best. This also carries the starter when pulling the planter.

WC MN

Had/have a 120 on the front, 1300 on the back.

At under 900 gallons,  yes, you could go through more than self propelled, but there are trade offs.  over 900 and wet = stuck looking at the sky.

Inboard tank distribute the weight better, then you get the joy of two tanks for spraying  (not my favorite)

Low height for late season spraying is one of my major beefs......

Sprayed allota acres with the kitty.   10-13 mph.....  No where near as nimble as a SP, but got the job done.   tracks will KILL a plant dead if run over, tires just make corn not put a cob on (;))......   Dont miss the turn ruts on the ends, but sure hate the ruts in the feild from the pizza cutters this summer  (320's are made by satan himself)........

Long story short,  track sprayers are nice..... Just plan on hiring some custom when the plants get tall......  (that is why we have a hagie now

Booms in the shed,  not sure we should sell it or keep it just in case....

EC MN - Hour North of 'The Cities'
Wide gauge with inboards and a Wil-Rich air ride 90' boom with a 500 gal tank is a nice pair when it is wet.

Went from a Hardi 800 gal 60' pull type behind a Ford 8670 set on 120" to the current setup.

Added a Sidekick injection system so I wouldn't have to be concerned about mixing chemicals for potentially 3 different tanks.

Make sure you empty out the rear tank first, then the saddles...otherwise you will be looking at the sky when splashing through holes.

Whatever you drive down with the tracks will die, but I do drive down less than the pull type.

Fast inboards on the MT and a straight boom on the back would be nice, but I think the inboards were priced in the upper teens...

Not best is if we would do preplant and dig it it, we would have to switch the sprayer and planter constantly. Nothing bad about chem before hand, just a machinery thing.
