Alberta, Canada
Its an allison 2500 and it needs a pto put on it. They are throwing some interesting labor quotes ranging from $600-$700 to the one place wants over $1000 labor. To install pto and wire in switch. Granted things a very busy right now at these sort of shops. Iv'e installed air shift pto's on manual transmissions before and it was pretty straight forward by following intructions and checking gear backlash etc. They're telling me on this auto trans installatoin there is way more stuff that has to be done etc.

we have put them on before and they are basically the same as any transmission pull the side cover put it up there check gear lashing shim as needed and bolt on. if you have done it on others it is not a big deal i would not pay that kind of money if you are handy with a wrench

On the automatic they have to add a solenoid and oil lines to lube the pto as well as operated the clutch pack to engage pto. This is not that hard but a does add a few more parts and time then a pto on a manual tranny. I would think the job could be done in 4 to 5 hours.

You can get a regular style chelsea pto and dont need the clutched style.

One T on your oil cooler line to lube the pto, and bolt on and shim just like any other. I have a T for a ht754, they are ridiculously expensive. $112 if I remember correctly.

Have the SN# of your trans run by an Allison dealer. Just because it has the cover on the side doesn't mean it has the drive gear in the trans. It's not as simple as just adding the gear in the trans either.

Getting the right one is likely harder than installing it. Is there a style that pumps all the time and another style you turn off and on? On our automatic the pto is switched on with a electrical switch and can be engaged any time. They wanted the serial number to get the right one and said it was not that common.

Didn't seem to be a problem getting one for a 2500 RDS Allison ... not cheap though. Its switched on electrically and can be turned on when ever. I got a direct mount pump ordered for it too. I figured there can't be too much to it. Just akward to work on probably.

just remember that if you are going to install a cable operated pto on a auto trans you have to stop the drive gear in the transmission by putting the transmission in gear and then engage pto and then place trans back in nuetral to spin pto.

Why would a cable operated pto differ from an electrically actuated pump? The tri-axle plow truck I run in the winter time has a 6 speed allison automatic in it, just flip the switch and pto activates regardless of whether the truck is stopped/moving/in neutral/in gear etc. Only issue we have had is the solenoid that engages the pto was too light for continuous 'on' duty, burnt up a couple last winter.

Your pto has a set of clutches in it. It's quite a bit more expensive than the cable operated ones.
