South Georgia | A friend of mine gave me a 5 gallon bucket of what he said is Genseal that he bought at the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie this year. The bucket has no label whatsoever on it. Has anybody used this stuff before? What sort of instructions do I need to have? How much do you put in an 18.4 38 rear tractor tire? Thanks for any information, Adrian

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | I bought a couple aircraft tires and rims for the front of my D21. Tires had Genseal in them. Genseal is anti-freeze and ground up newspapers. Both tires constantly seeped antifreeze from every pore. Genseal shipped 2 more gallons at no cost to me and I added that to the tires. Both tires would still weep antifreeze and leak air. Finally had enough fun doing that, so I de-mounted the tires, washed the wonder sealant out, let tires dry, and put in a tube. No further trouble.

Faunsdale, AL | If it's green and gloppy, it's likely the genseal. It does have some sort of fiber in it, I don't think it's ground up newspaper, it can really clog up the check valves in the pump we put it in with. Takes a good wire hook to pull it out of there and free up the ball, so it ain't just newspaper. I usually just put in plenty as long as it's a low speed tire. If you put too much in a highway speed tire, it may glob up on one side/freeze and shake. I would guess a cup to a pint in a light truck tire is plenty. I would use a quart to a half gallon in a front tractor (10.00 or 11.00-16 etc.) and a couple gallons in a rear tractor tire. It can dry out eventually after a couple years and need some additional put in. I've kept some tires running with the stuff that had no prayer of running without it and couldn't run a tube in (rough inside). Some of their airplane tires have more pinholes etc from cutting the beads than others do and will weep the liquid and go down if they sit for long periods. I think they also use a bead sealer compound when they mount the tires they sell on the rim. The genseal in them is frequently black instead of green (mixed with bead sealer?). It seems to be useless to seal up even small punctures in a tube, but works really well running tubeless as long as the tire seats tight on the rim. That seems to be the downfall of their airplane tires in many cases, the tire just doesn't fit the rim tight enough and eventually it leaks down and pops loose. Their rims seem to be a crap shoot, some are strong enough and some have cracked along the edge of the bead when used on our loader tractors.

Wallis, TX | I've used it several times with good luck. We even had a 55 gallon barrel of it in Africa. That stuff will seal some really big holes. Never had the seepage problem Ed has had, maybe I'm just lucky or I'm running more pressure or having less tire deflection than he had in his application. For the rate, I just pour in a quart or so for smaller tires, maybe up to a gallon for rear tractor tires.

South Georgia | We are on our second set of 37x14.5 airplane tires on the boll buggy. Had pretty good luck with them. main problem is they go flat when not running it and are a pain to pump back up because of how stiff they are. Also have a set on a water wagon, 34 somethings and they are doing good. When we pump the ones back up on the boll buggy every year we add 1 gal of the genseal back in them, and it runs out the weep holes all fall while running it. I asked them at the expo how much to put in them, they suggest at the min a half gallon, but they ship with 1 gallon in the 37x14.5 tires. Not sure how much a bigger tire would need, but I am sure they will tell ya something if you call.

South Georgia | Skimmed the website looking for instructions, and while I didn't find any, it's apparently not just ground up newspaper. I can't say that it works better than that, but it's supposed to be fancier than that. Speaking of Plowboy, I sure wish he'd come back. Adrian

South Georgia | Thanks for all the replies. Reckon when we get around to trying it, we'll put in a gallon or two. As I said, the bucket was given to me, so I have nothing to lose, right? Appreciate it, Adrian
