Anyone know any more about this tractor?

And I can't figure out how to hyperlink it.   Maybe someone can help and do that.

I don't think I've shown these before. Some interesting stuff at the Rantoul show.

And since you can see the other tractor in the background, here are some of the that one.

To each his own but my opinion is he ruined a good classic tractor with the oil slobber.

Thanks for that info. I stumbled across that on YouTube but had never seen anything about it.

Looks like it has some bark when he cracks the throttle in the video.

Wish I had 10% of Kinzenbaw's knowledge and talent. Truly an amazing individual.

It wasn't a classic when it was repowered. It was only a year old. Granted, I don't think I'd want to buy a new tractor just to dump in a different motor. Could you see someone spending a couple hundred thousand today just to throw in a bigger motor?

Maybe something happened to the original engine. Back then the warranties were much shorter than they are now. Labor would have been cheaper, compared to the cost of parts. 6V71's would have been very common then too.

2 stroke Detroit, the most efficient way to turn diesel fuel into smoke and noise......I still like those hot rodded tractors. Someday I suppose I will own a 2 stroke, but it will likley be in 8v92 fashion wrapped with a cabover Freightshaker.

What I am wondering though is how rest of the tractor held up with an engine putting out around double the hp of the original.  I know Kinze made himself famous doing that with 5020s but those had the weight and the drivetrain to spare.  JD eventually caught up to what he was doing with the 6030.   I had a relative do the same thing.  He put a 6V71 into a year old Wagner TR9 that orignally had 160 hp.  You know what, he had to reengineered the rest of the the tractor by adding oil coolers for the tranny and axles.

Had a good friend who bought a 1066 just out of warranty, and engine met is maker via the cylinder cavitation issue. Anyway, maybe the engine in this 1256 had the same fate??

If a person has a use for a close to new 8V, there are 3 - 400 hertz generators to be sold at Offutt AFB.

I have all that I really need. I pushed dirt with the D8 8V71T a couple days this week.

sw corner ia.
a friend of mine had a 5020 with a 318 in it with two stacks. He was plowing a field about 6 miles away from me and I could hear it very plainly, so in my exuberance I got my dad in the pickup and drove to the field to watch it up close. It was pulling a 6x18 plow in 5th gear which was over 6 mph. I still love that sound, but on somebody else's tractor. 6cyls never had that raspy bark either. when I worked for yellow they had an army of trucks with detroits in them and I guess this is where my love affair with that noise ended.

Back in the 70's when I worked at the imp dealership we had a guy that came in with a 1206 with front wheel drive on it. It had the floater tires on it all the way around and it had a 318 detroit in it. That was the neatest tractor I had ever seen. He pulled a 24 ft disc followed by a 24 ft field cult followed by a 24 ft drag. I heard he took the rearend out 3 times before he gave up on it. I wish I had some pictures of the rig running in the field. It was up North of New Hampton Ia
