Farmington, Maine | I'm looking to buy a new tedder around here the best selling brand is Kuhn but there are a fair amount of New Holland tedders too. The new Holland dealer is $890. cheaper than the kuhn dealer and told me the only difference between the two is the colour of the paint. Is this true?
I am willing to pay more if it means getting a better machine but I will go with lower priced New Holland if there is no difference. They are both trail type machines, 16.5 feet wide and both hydraulic fold. |

North Liberty and South Bend, Indiana | If they are the 6 basket tedders they are identical other than the paint. Pretty sure the 4 basket NH's are different than any Kuhn. At least they were last year. |

scky | Don't know about now, but in the past the 2 tedders were the same except for paint. I have neighbors that have each brand, and they are identical. |

Central Illinois | If it's the new holland h5270 keep looking. There has to be a better built tedder out there. |

Farmington, Maine | I just called the NH dealer. He said it is a model 163H and it has 6 arms per rotor. He said he was not sure how long the model has been around but knows they sold them back in 2003 or 4.
The Kuhn dealers model is a GF502 THA and this also has 6 arms per rotor. |

Chilliwack BC | We have 2 New Holland 163's that we've had since about 1993 and other than teeth and tires, one of them stripped the threads on the hight adjusting crank. They have been very reliable for us. They are made by Kuhn, as well as the 2 169's we have that are 6 rotor. |

| Check the number of arms per rotor, digi-drive vs double cardan U-joint drive and various other little things like that. I really didn't look at the NH tedders when I was buying because there were none in stock around at the time and I needed one...
You could also look at Deere's Frontier line. They're selling what is basically a rebadged Pequea. From all indications this TD2427 I bought appears as good as a Kuhn. It's certainly well built (heavy). The things to watch are the small things like the digi-drive vs u-joint couplings. This one has the double cardan... and I belive the actual Pequea has digidrive... so there are some differences. That said... this seems to work fine. The only gripe I have about this machine is that it's caster wheels catch and ball up with short hay when you're working in certain conditions and I may need to add a curtain of some sort to stop that. It was also more money than a Kuhn of the same width but I liked the way the baskets fold up onto the frame for transport on this one.
I suspect if you found a Pequea dealer with a machine 'in stock' you might be able to deal a bit more than what options I had at the time.

Eastern Ont | The New holland tedder is a cheap version of the kuhn
Kuhn makes 2 tedders a cheap line and a more expensive line
The NH is the cheap version
IMHO you get what you pay for as far as tedders are concerned
