Bow Island, Alberta | My brother demoed a used (4300 hrs) Challenger MT765 last Saturday. He first tried it on a potato hiller/ripper. He had been pulling it with his 8410 (6000 hrs), with almost wore out 380R50 on the insides and 20.8R42 on the outsides. He was pretty disappointed that the yellow tractor didn't pull it any better than the green one, especially considering the tires. We then tried on a chisel plow that I was pulling with my 8410T. We drove the tractors side by side to be sure that the speeds were comparable. Pulled the chisel plow exactly the same. Both tractors had almost new 16" Camoplast tracks. Of coarse, the yellow tractor rode much better on the road, and over some rough areas of the field. The cab was slightly quieter, but also smaller. The yellow tracor turned much better with a load but that was likely due to the fact that the tracks were at 144" instead of 76". Do you think there was something wrong with the Challenger. We were watching the engine load readout, and it was usually 95-100%. Or are our JD's cranked up to more than they are rated for? I would guess something was wrong with the Cat, we demod a 765B two years ago and had it pulling slightly less than our 8970.

South-central Nebraska | I had a 8410 which was a great tractor with lots of power. I replaced it with a MT755B that would walk all over what the 8410 would do for power. I wish I had kept the 8410 as well as having the MT, both very good tractors, pulling advantage easily the MT.

Bow Island, Alberta | Sorry, didn't check the fuel pressure.

Mid-Missouri | I thought our 765C 30"track demo would pull our inline ripper deeper than our biggest tractor at the time, 936 versatile, 310 hp, 855 cummins, and 650 Michelin duals.

Mid-Missouri | On second note, the chisel isn't even in the ground on the Deere!!!

Bow Island, Alberta | If it was a fuel filter problem, would the engine power still show 100%? I did check fuel consumption a few times and it was 13.5 gal/hr.

Sunnyside, WA | Just put a JD complete reman engine in our 8410. It dynoed 290 and held for 30 minutes. Tech said he could have pushed it more, but figured 290 was enough. Never dynoed it before the new engine, but it seems just as stout. Still puts our 8420 to shame. I have never been in a Cat 765, but I know the JD 8X10 series seemed to run well above rated.

mount vernon, washington | Yes, on my spfh, I was down on power today but the power was reading above 110%. Fuel rate was down to 26g an hour from the usually 28.5. Changed the the filters and power and fuel rate was back to normal. Filters had 125 hours on them.

Chebanse, IL..... | Irregardless of your tractor brand used, that's a very good question! If the engine is being constricted by either fuel or air, how can it be producing 100% h.p.?

SW Iowa | I believe the 100% is how much the injection voltage is trying to put fuel in. If the ECM commands full fuel, its 100% and the injectors are wide open, but if there is not enough fuel to fully inject, it only gets a partial shot.....but the injector and computer says its a max power. Some of the earlier tractors do not monitor fuel pressure(depending on the software package) so the ECM may not know there is a fuel pressure problem. I have never had a customer or demo that the potential customer was not impressed by the power of the C9 in an MT. They just plain have guts. Too bad you didn't get a fair demo. Michael

I'd say worn/neglected injectors....fuel rate at 100% load should be 17 to 18 GPH not 13 GPH.

What is different on yours that it shows the fuel pressure? Ours don't. It has asterisk. Wait, maybe it's cursing? This is on a MT 745

West Texas | Most I've ever seen on our 745 is 13.2 GPH. Currently disking cotton stalks and I put on custom ground speed at 6 mph, it mostly cruises thru the field at 1650 RPM's in 11th gear. When it hit's a soft spot it goes down to 10th gear and throttles up to 1800 or so unless it's real sandy, then it goes to 9th @1950 rpm's. It's burning about 9.8 GPH average, 0.5 gallon per acre.

West Texas | The cab on the Cat smaller???? I don't think so! You either have a very, very salty 8410 or something is way wrong with that Cat. Our MT 745 @205 PTO HP will keep up with our 8420's (235 hp)and 8430 unless conditions are ideal for tires and the wheel tractors can put all their power down. (almost never!) And even then it will keep up at times but you can tell it lacks the ponies then vs the JD's. You do know that you can load that Cat down to about 1850 RPMS don't you? That's when it really starts to pull!! You don't have to keep them revved like a JD at 2000 RPM's.

MT765 is almost 50 more HP than a 745 and has to use more fuel per hr.

Ive been renting a 765c for the last couple of weeks and it'll will do everything our 9200 or 8760 will do and maybe a bit more.

Bow Island, Alberta | Measured the cabs this morning. About the same size, but the Challenger cab is fuller, so there is less open area.

West Texas | All I know is that in the Cat I can stretch my legs out straight without hitting the windshield. Can't do that in any of the Deere cabs. So for me it's a lot roomier in there then in a Deere cab.

That's odd that you say that because I've always liked the Cat cabs over the Deere.
