Subject: Daewoo Forklift questions

I bought a propane Daewoo forklift at a Ritchie Brothers auction. On the auction site they described it as a G30S-3. It has obviously been repainted and the new decals on it say G30E.

Anyways, it's a 4730# propane powered lift with a 3 stage mast and big front tires. Seems to run alright except it nearly can't get out of it's own way. We are used to a forklift with a manual transmission with a low and high gear. We can easily spin the tires in low gear. This lift has a difficult time moving if you are trying to turn as sharp as you can. I am wondering if there is a way to switch it to low range, or if that's just the way forklifts with automatic transmissions are, or if there is something wrong with it.

Also, where is a good place for service for Daewoo Forklifts. Someplace that I could call and ask questions and buy parts? Where could I get an owners manual or maybe even a service manual? Thanks.

Edited to add a picture.

I"ve got a Komatsu with an auto tranny. Had it checked out and it was in specs but it also is tough to move first thing, once it warms up for a couple minutes then it works pretty good. If its warm it'll always be easy to run but when its cold it is kind of painful. Our Cat forklift is hydro and I like it better as you never have to rev it up to get rolling

Just earlier this year, I bought a Daewoo D30S-3...have probably put less than 10 hours on it so far, but I love it. I don't think it will spin the tires, but has plenty of power. Keep an eye on ebay for manuals, I've been looking too, but I think there might be one for yours right now, if it is a G30S-3.

I have a Caterpillar V40D forklift, and it is made by Daewoo. It has a gasoline Peugeot engine with the automatic forward and reverse shuttle. It is weak when going up a hill, and will not spin unless it's uneven ground where one wheel loses traction. In a tight turn (and it will turn very tight) you do have to give it a fair amount of throttle. I think it is normal for the model I have, as it is running ok. It does not have different ranges, just forward and reverse. You may get some info from a Cat dealer.

I did a google search and came up with "Morland Sandblasting, Welding and Forklift Sales".

Would that be the place? Thanks.

Well, I looked at the plate on it and I cannot make much of it out. It appears it was first sold in a Spanish speaking country because what I assume is a safety warning on the plate appears to be in Spanish (although I don't know Spanish). The units are in KG and mm.

I can see where they got G30S-3. The G30 is very clear, as is the -3. However, the S is not very clear at all. It looks more like a 6 to me, but as I search on the internet, I do not see any G306-3 lifts.

It was advertised as a 4730# lift but I do not see any G30 lifts that are less than 6000#.

There is a 5452 KG number on it.

There is a 4730 number on it.

There is a 982 mm number on it.

I believe the person who checked the forklift in assumed it was a 4730# lift since the other number was 5452 KG.

You may be wondering how I bought this without knowing more about it. It's a long story. Basically, it was a mistake on my part that I ended up owning it.

Anyways, I wonder if the 5452 KG means it weighs 12,000#? I have no idea what the 982 mm would be.

Yes that would be the place. I think Dave has done some work on one of Kastens forklifts.

One of our forklifts is a Caterpillar V50D made by Daewoo. It acts similar to what you describe so that may just be the way they are. The auto will feel different than a manual.

The plate on my D30 says standard machine capacity 6,000 and machine weight 10,652.. There's a lot more info on there that I can't read due to the letters being worn off. The way I take it, the -3 would be the third series of a G30..? Not sure what the " S " designates. I'd say you bought a quality lift.

It looks to me like yours is a G30S-3....based on the similarity to mine, which is plainly stamped D30S-3....

Thanks for all your help. Yeah, they do look quite similar. Wish I knew what the letter designations meant. I went out and scraped on the plate a little and now it shows clearly as a G30E-3. I guess the E had some paint or something on it that made it look like a squarish 6.

I'm starting to get more used to how it operates. I think I'll have to fix a leak and a few other things, but I'm hoping it will be alright for what we're doing.
