West Michigan | Looking for a winch that is 110 volt and has 200 foot of cable. Doesn't need to pull much weight. 500lbs would be plenty. All I can find are 100 foot of 5/16 wire rope. Anyone know where I could find one??

Sac & Story county IA | Keep in mind that 200 feet of 1/4 wire will fit in a smaller place than larger wire, shorter. I have a winch with 250 feet of 1/4. The drum is not very full. About the size of what was on the front of a deuce and half.
I am not going to do the volume calculations, but I bet it would be close to fitting in about the same spot as 100 feet of 5/16. |

East of Dowagiac Michigan | Need to pull the belt into an elevator leg? An electric silo unloader winch would be painfully slow..........45 minutes for 60' silo if I remember correctly. |

we put ours up witha 450 rpm drill takes 20 minutes
500 lbs and faster drill would also work

NW Iowa | but preferably 12v. I want to mount one to go in and out of a receiver hitch and plug into the trailer plug and run the cable down the 193' alley way in the hog barns to drag pigs out.
If I can ever get ahold of something, I will be a much happier person overall. |

SWMN | Some of the newer silo winches are two speed. Lots of silos went down in storms this summer. Maybe try Craig's list . |

West Michigan | Thats what I want it for as well. 200 foot barn but no straight shot for a pickup or trailer to line up. got a 110 plug in loading area at front of barn. I have found one so far but it is $2500. OOOCHH that is steep on price. can go up to 260 feet of 1/4 inch cable. Will pull 30-35 fpm. The farmer we grow them for wants them well over 300# that is just to much to drag that far. |

Cen IL | Just remember, what a winch is rated at is on the first wrap of cable. Buy the time you get to the umptineth wrap with 200' of cable, you've got very little pull left. |

Goff, Kansas (Nemaha County) USA | Was looking around on Surplus Center, and they have some PTO driven winches you could setup to run off an electric motor, would just need a motor and cable then. I see they only want 1000 rpm going in so may need to do some belt/pulley setup to get the speed right, but it has plenty of drum to run whatever size cable you want. You can get fairly long remnant bulk cable from FarmTek pretty reasonable sometimes wouldn't hurt to check what they have or you can get whatever length cut from them too.
Not to take away from your winch idea but what about something like this? If you are handy with a welder you could probably make one yourself, could get real fancy and fix up from an old battery/electric pallet jack so is self powered then could use a 12v winch to draw them on. Would take up a bit more room when just recharging/not using, than just a winch on a wall. Guessing this is going to be a one building thing since you were going to use a 120v setup. Just a thought... Like stated before, should be able to take any winch that has larger cable, take it off and put smaller dia. on to get more distance. |

West Michigan | We have a cart like that. Works, but not well. If you loaded them then chopped the legs off it would go fine. Legs stick out and catch every gate ect. Found one with 200' but it is pricey. How much pull would a 325# pig create on dry cement?? |

Texas/New Mexico Stateline | 200 ft barn, get another 100 ft of cable and put clevis and hook on it. Hook that to the hog, and hook the winch cable to the end of that. Pull in until you get to the end of the loose cable, then run your winch cable back out and hook onto the hog.
Would be a little extra work, but not much. I'd do it for $2500 savings. And a pain rolling up 100' of loose cable but might be able to make some kind of roller out of old wheel or something to keep it on. |

scky | Why not build yourself a windless, you could have all the length you want. Use a 3/8 nylon rope and drag a hog as far as you can buy rope.
You could use a small winch for the windless, instead of spooling the winch, just wrap the rope around the drum and hold on and turn on the winch. The power company uses a windless to pull line, they could never have a winch to pull the length they need. If you have to go around corners use snatch blocks on the corners.
