Anybody know what the price tag is for the smallest of John Deere's new combines? I'm not a big Deere guy, but was pleasantly suprised to see them come out with a smaller sized combine! I've been thinking the day will come that if you don't farm over 1,000 acres or so that you'd have to either share a combine with a neighbor or hhire it done. Now maybe there's a ray of hope for smaller and medium sized operations perhaps?

I dont think it is smaller sized than what they make now. Im pretty sure the 550 is the same as a 9570 but with a different body from what i have heard. I have also heard they are only going to make so many of that size then they are gonna quit making them so a 6 series would be the smallest you can get. as far as price goes I dont know what list is on a 9570 but I have heard they are gonna be about 35000 higher than if you would have bought a 9570 this year.

I've never run a green combine, but seen the pics of the new S550 with a 6 row corn head......is it that much bigger than a 9500 or a CIH 1660? Regardless, I find it hard to believe that NOBODY seems to find it profitable to build smaller machines, stripped down a bit so the smaller operations could afford and justify owning one.

Salesman said Thurdday, that they are making that size for 2 more years, then that is is for the small combine. I guess we will ALL be farming 3000 acres by then and need a bigger combine.

Little Duck nailed it; several salesman who are fairly large volume dealers have said they'll only be getting 2-3machines of the S500 series for this year, and similar numbers for 2012 and then they'll be discontinued for 2013-MY

Just under $300k for the base model with no additional features added to it or upgrades on any of the components. To customize it how you want it can go to www.deere.com and build your own how you would like it and give you a ball park figure of what to expect when visiting with a salesman. This tool just lists the suggested retail and then from there it depends on what the dealer will do for you.

A S550 to me is more like a 2000-3000 acre machine in my opinion, neighbor runs a 9570 with 8 row and 25 foot header and runs close to 3000 acres. His combine never stops, 2 carts, 8 wagons and he just goes from one drying bin to the next. We run a 7720 over 1000+ acres and i know i could never justify a new combine unless its a partnership with another 1000+ acres.

Ask the geniuses at the tech division of deere why they haven't updated the consumer side of build and price for combines? 6,7,8 and 9R's were up two weeks ago. Currently still on MY 2011 combines!

Don't understand why deere would go to the expense of redesigning the machine for such a short run. Why not keep building a 9570? its not like they can't get sales.

nobody sells for retail though ;)

cut price in 1/3-1/2 and it'll be dealers price. Lex 770 corn equipped is $500,000 MSRP, sell for a little more affordable $300K-ish new.

The S550 is a 9570 with the new cab.  Everything else is just the same as it was on the 9570.

Some do here to but the efficient ones don't. Some of my neighbors with less acres than me have brand new class 6,7, and 8s. One of my neighbors has a brand new 8120 coming for a whopping 300 acres, needless to say he don't make any money farming, told me farming is a place to put money to keep from paying taxes.

If you can get a 770 for $300k ish I'll take four. Should be able to sell three and have some profit left over.

We ran our 9510 sidehill, or 9560 sidehill over 2200-2400 acres for the past few years and while you've got to keep the machine moving, it's certainly not impossible to run the baby of the fleet over that many acres. Amd I don't have the greatest of going beings we are in the sidehills and countours on 100% of our acres. I would agree with NEIL farmer that 3000 acres with a 9570 on good going would be achievable. Seems like bigger is the way everything is going and as previous posters above have said, the 700-800 acre operation can't buy a new combine that's really "fit" for his or her operation size
