western mn | the town of Murdock is having an upcoming auction, drove by lineup tonight and there was a IH 315 combine sitting there, we had a 403 years back, and it looked real similar, but ive never seen a 315 before, was it a real small version of the 715, or just an updated 403 going into that 15 series of combine? Just curious, thanks... |

| The 315 was a continuation of the 203 series machines and had saddle type grain tanks. I looked at a new 315 in '71 but ended up going with a 615 which was a continuation of the 303 series machine and was the small brother of the 715. The 315 was discontinued after a just 3-4 years.

Northeast Missouri | I think the saddle type grain tanks were used to balance the combine on hillsides. The 315 engine may have been larger than the engine on a 615. |

Westport, IN | I have a one new set and one used set of drive belts for the ground drive for a 315. I also have a good clutch and pressure plate if any one needs them. |

Henderson, Minnesota | The 315 was kind of a transition between the o3 series and the 15 series. They were somewhat of a lemon, one reason being the straw racks were short and congested. Most of them were rightfully junked so that makes them somewhat collectible today. I have one. When is the auction? I wouldn't buy one with the expectations of getting a lot of use out of it. |

Eastern North Carolina | The 91, 93, 203, 205 and 315 were all pretty much off the same shelf..... We had three 203's when I was a kid. It pretty much took three to keep one running, there was always something out of whack. They would bend a straw walker crankshft before a cat could lick it's....... |

central - east central Minnesota - | We had one . . . got it to replace a Gleaner A. The 315 was no replacement for that A ! The A could out thrash and work the 315 by a bunch. I rebuilt most of the 315, only had it for 2 yrs.. It was a real money pit and learning experence on what to look into, before buying someones elses troubles. Traded it toward a Gleaner F. |

S.E. Iowa | Had a 205 pretty much junk, the 303s were way more machine. Biggest problem they were built kinda like a uni body car didnt have a real frame and the flex would destroy riddles and straw walkers. |

Central Iowa | The 315 replaced the 303 in 1968, we never had one but I never heard too many good things about them. IH reverted back to the 03 design in 1971 by replacing the 315 with the 615. |

Your not right the 315 replaced the 205 we bought a new one in 1972 to cut wet ground with its was a light machine and would run on wetter fields than our JD 105. Had a 10' head on it and it would run right along with it, we keep it 3 years and I don't remember one down day with the combine. we just cut beans with it we didn't have a corn head for it. I still like the saddle tanks on it. could load one or the other or both. Ours had the 3 speed transmission and variable speed on it. and for the time a good auto header control. |

Central Iowa | The 205 continued to be built, along with the 315 through 1970. The 303 went away when the 615/715's came on the market, looks like a replacement to me. I stand by my original statement. |
