Subject: Kuhn Speed Rake

West Central WI
Last ditch effort here before I sell/trade this thing. My tractor I rake with doesn't have a float on the hydraulic. It seems that a kuhn speed rake requires this. I'm raking on hills and un-even ground. Am I just simply out of luck here? Thanks in advance

Your the first person I've talked to who doesn't like them. I've seen them behind every make and model of tractor in the valley, surprised your hydraulics don't work well with them. I bet our local dealer has sold 20 this year, if not more. Guessing the price helps as well, last I heard they were $6250 delivered to the farm. I like the job a Twinstar or Allen does, but @30k for a new one, a little dirt in the hay doesn't seem so bad.

Heck, tow it out here and I'll bet you can get 6k for it, new ones are all backordered ;)

I rake with a 641 Ford that doesn't have a float position and it works fine for me. I don't have very much uneven ground though. I do rake over terraces and that takes a little more time to get all the hay.

I run mine in float sometimes and sometimes not. Seems to work good both ways. I thinks it works a little better if I dont use float, and push it all the way down. Especially heavy hay. Best rake we ever had, love it.

Thanks for the replys, I Really would like to make it work. It does seem to work in the force down position, but thought maybe that is too hard on it? The only thing I have not done is adjust the two springs. Might try it, right now they are kinda in the mid adjustment position.

Yes, the SR100 needs to be in float to take pressure off the position pin but we all know there are a few running in power down ILO float. You may want to contact dealer on the possiblity of by-passing flow on the hyd valve on your tractor but sometimes this isn't possible. To help ease the strain on the rake make sure the tire pressure is at 20-22psi and the unit is running table top level. Success to you as there are over 5000 of these rakes running today.
