| I am trying to bleed the brakes after replacing a couple of brake lines and there seems to be some air left in it. I started at the master cylinder, then the hydo-vac then all four corners. It still seems to have air in the system because it takes several pumps to get a hard pedal. Does anyone have any tips ? |

| Those are a booger to blead. A power bleeder really helps. You could try gravity bleeding it, but, i've never had much luck with that. |

Ohio | You will have to use a power bleeder. If you don't have one , find a mechanic that does. Even with a power bleeder they can be a real pain. |

| I didn't see a second bleeder there. I will look again. |

ECIL | I'll tell you what works. Get a Mityvac hand vacuum pump kit. Ask for it by name. You basically hook it to the bleeder fitting, pump up the pump, open valve, push down on brake peddle, and then close valve. Don't let the pump loose vacuum. It pulls air and brake fluid thru the system. The kit will include instructions. I see on there web site, Mityvac has several different kinds. I think mine is the silverline. This should work for you, it has for me, and as I said.....keep the vacuum pump, pumped up! |

| The only way I have been able to bleed these things is with a pressure bleeder on top of the master cly, Wasted hours trying to bleed like a normal truck, pressure bleeder makes it quick and easy. I have a C-65 and the shop manual says a pressure bleeder has to be used.

East of Dowagiac Michigan | The truck needs to be running to bleed a hydra-vac system by pumping the petal and opening bleeders. |

Faunsdale, AL | If you have to pump it a couple times and then get a hard pedal, I think your problem is the adjustment on the shoes. Take a couple of strokes from the master cylinder to push them out to the drums and then when you let off, the springs pull the shoes back in and there you go.......... two pumps to get a hard pedal again.
Never had a pressure bleeder here and have worked on several hydrovac brake trucks over the years. It can be done.
Had one old truck the brake hoses were completely plugged/swollen shut on. That caused some head scratching! |

| Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure we have more problems than just air at this point. I think the brakes are going have to come apart and give it a brake job and free up the adjusters. I only wanted this truck to haul scrap so I think I'm going to post it for sale and go a different route. |
