SW MN | Is a Gehl 1475 Baler any good?
Have a friend looking at one and wondering if there are any things he should watch out for.
Thanks |

| Hey, I see your from SW MN if your friend is looking at the one in Westbrook tell him to look closely. When we looked at it it looked like it had rolled over in a ditch or something bc from the back everything was on a lean to the side. It might still work fine, but we walked away. Gehls are also not made anymore so parts availability may be a problem, and they have more space between the belts so I would guess you lose more crop when baling? Hope this helps! |

| I have run one for the last ten years. I would NOT buy one again. It is a closed throat baler that comes from the factory with a tool to unclog the throat, that should have told me something. When baling, IF you get it to start rolling, you cant put it in fast enough, it will ever more suck it up. but some fields it would choke up at least 25% of the time. I baled mostly bahia grass that gets real slick, when in bermuda it was not as much of a problem. I don't know how your grasses up there compare to these. I replaced it this year with a 558 John Deere. |

Grawn Michigan | We run a 1375 gehl. It has 6900 bales on it according to the monitor. Not a bad baler over all. We have had ours 5 or 6 yrs now and have done nothing to it. We only do 200 to 300 bales a year with it. the feed on ours plugs once and a while but usually because I try running to fast. We have mostly alfalfa and grass hay mixes. Ours has auto tie which is nice but sometimes I have trouble getting it to feed. I think that may be a twine issus more than a baler issue. Over all a good baler. I would buy another. I do like the denisty of the.bales and the seem to hold up well well which is nice when selling them |

swmn | we had a 1465 gehl. really liked it, i did have to replace my tdc valve. it baled alfalfa fine, oats straw really good, corn stalks forget it, wont happen. watch for spots where the belts rub; these can be welded back up. watch the gate, this was not always welded the best from the factory. all in all not a bad baler if you are not going to use it heavy, also good for road ditches. teeth arent the easiest to replace but once you get the hang of it, it can be done. we moved on to a jd 467 which is a much better baler but much heftier price. good luck |

nc ks | fairly simple baler with good capacity and good reliability in my experience. Would I buy one with all the other choices for used balers out there? NO. Once you get a bale started it will eat about anything, but once you are comfortable and forget to watch to make sure the bale starts rolling before you give it to it, you will be out unplugging it. Like another poster said, life is too short. Probably get a good Hesston open throat for same money or even a 535 Deere would be better. |
