NW Missouri | Hi All, I'll try to make this brief but I'm having major issues with a (new to me) tractor. I purchased the 545B about six weeks ago. It is a 2009 model with 280 hours. It was used by the State DNR as a "rental" for two years. I got a great deal on the tractor and love all the features, but it has an issue that has yet to be resolved. The tractor was purchased for light tillage, planting, and running my round hay baler. Okay, after delivery, my first task was to drive the tractor to another farm to do some work there. It's about 15 miles. Half way there when down shifting and turning onto another highway, the tractor flashed "Error: D 142" and wouldn't shift. I coasted to the side of the road. Nothing would get the tractor to move. Had a friend tow me to a bit safer spot and called the dealer. The tractor sat for two days while mechanics looked at it. They decided it was a clutch pedal sensor, after another day wait for the part. It was "fixed". I had a friend drive out to the tractor and it did the exact same thing - Error code, and no way to get it into gear. After another day and another "sensor" the tractor seemed to be okay. The mechanic told me that the tractor "got hot" and that's what caused the sensor to go out, etc. They replaced said sensor three time and everything seemed okay. So, today, after hooking up the baler, moving the monitor, etc., and after mowing and raking 40 acres of hay (with different tractor (a red one)) I headed out to bale. Center on the row, hit the PTO, and go to put it in gear, and bam: "Error D142." I'm now stuck with hay on the ground and the mechanic will hopefully be out first thing in the morning. My question: "Anyone with a Challenger have anything similar to this?" I've had the tractor for six weeks and have yet to do any work with it. Thanks, Tom

| I am going to assume this is a 24 speed tractor and not a CVT. The bottom of clutch switches are a known problem but mostly in the 400B series. If you drive with the reverser will it still cause the same error? Or is it primarily when you cycle the clutch. That switch has been superseeded and changed several times I assume he is using the latest sensor. Also the reverser itself has been known to cause similar issues. They are super nice tractors. | |||

Crawfordsville, Arkansas | Its the top clutch switch. Just had one replaced in a RT130 Agco. It was giving a 142 code also. Would go into gear randomly. Aggravating to not be able to use a tractor because of a stupid switch.

NW Missouri | Thanks guys, yes it is the 24 speed. It won't go in any gear, or forward or reverse. I'll report this info to the mechanic. Maybe I should keep some of these as spares in the cab. Yes, very nice tractor when it works. Adding exact symptom: Start tractor, right panel just cycles through error codes. Continual beep because tractor thinks the clutch pedal is depressed (and emergency brake is on). However, clutch pedal isn't depressed. The range light never lights up, etc. Everything works great but won't go forward or reverse. Edited by twabscs 6/30/2011 23:03

southeast Washington | So this is the dyna six transmission the Massey would be 6400 series. There are three switchs (for the lack of a better word) on the clutch the top one seems to be the problem most of the time.

Clinton, ON | Mechanic was here to do a set of valves on one of the Valtra's and he was saying also that they were having a heck of a time with those top sensors on the MF's and Agco's. He said that he could put them in in his sleep by now. He had one laying ready in his service truck. Edited by Franke 7/1/2011 07:56

NW Missouri | Just updating the post with the resolution. After lots of troubleshooting, where it looked like it was fixed, and was not, it was the bottom switch that was causing the issue. The top switch had been replaced multiple times, but the bottom switch was acting up intermittently and causing the top switch (appearance of) failure. Thanks everyone for help/feedback.
