I have always been a fan of Vermeer hay rollers, had a 605c and now we run a 605 Super J. Got to see a 505M Silage baler, two years old ,a piece of junk!!!!!! 60 roller chain where there should be 80, more stuff poorly engineered. Can not believe how they have gone downhill.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only been around a couple 605J with auto weave. Thought that was the cats pa jammas. But very hard on chains made a tight bale. very little belt problems. Then dad got a 605XL man I forget now. Before the M's came out. Bad carma, belt problems, net problems man am I glad I don't have to deal with that any more.

I run a 605M, we custom bale so it gets a lot of abuse, but its treated us well. We have put a decent amount in repairs into it. The XL's were junk, they made a ton of improvements over those. The K was a decent baler. To be honest I've only broken a chain once, when I was baling too wet and slugged the pickup.

I have a Vermeer 605 Super J with over 50,000+ bales through it, and last year bought a new 605 Super M, we liked the new Super M, my wife ran the new baler and I run the old Super J, lots of days we made over 550 bales, actually ran out of hay to bale, I think the new balers may be more prone to fires beings that they are all sheilded up and they are harder to clean off at the end of the day, a good long blow gun and air hose works the best. My wife ran it all season without a problem, dont think you could plug this baler, I ran a JD 4450 on it and it would give it a workout on large windrows, we V-raked 44ft. of Oats hay and she would eat it up no trouble. We've got a 604M and I have nothing but good to say about it. Coming from years of NH balers, Vermeer is a much heavier built more durable machine. The pickup is well designed and only a problem when the operator causes the issue :-), no bearing or belt problems for us and we're over 11K right now, net has never given us a problem, big tire option floats over low ground. I know others have had problems but I'm one satisifed customer!

If going to the M series skip the M and go to the Super M or you wont be happy. Had a 605M and was in shop from day one, constant bearings going out, finially burned it up with 3500 bales on it the first year we owned it, burnt up from the same bearing and roller that had just been replaced 300 bales before that. Might be a heavy baler but will be the last Vermeer we ever own here. Been alot more Ms burn up around here also. Supposedly improved the super Ms alot, heavier bearings and rollers. Got a 568 now and it will outbale the M we had in everything but cornstalks, there the Vermmer shined.

Haven't run a super M just seen them, from the looks of them they look improved. Like I said earlier, we've dumped a lot in repairs in to the M but we've been very impressed with it. I think a little routine maintenance goes along way on a round baler. Not saying you don't do it, just that a lot of people expect the baler to run a whole season with only greasing/lubing chains once a cutting.

How are you supposed to grease sealed bearings on the tension roller?

You didn't really specify that it was sealed to begin with. Where are you running your tension at? We run 3/4 of the way in the Yellow and haven't ever had one of those go out.

I dont remember we burnt it up 3 yrs ago, but dont think we ever even got that far into the yellow. All I know is has been several burn up around here for same reason. Ins companys are sueing Vermeer right now because they knew they had a promblem and werent fixing it. That was 3 yrs ago and my ins company called the other day and is sueing them presently because of so many claims on Vermeer M series balers, say I may get my deductable money back if they win.
