cropsey, il 61731 | Looking around a little at options for the 9170 motor. My motor definitely has metal in the oil, so crank work would be involved - takes the price over a complete/decent engine (that I will roll new bearings in no matter what this time). Our gubamint is auctioning off some engines from big army trucks M916, etc and they are an NTC version. I didn't think there was a lot of difference between the NTC and 855BC and both are still mechanical motors (afaik). It would be handy to be able to swap manifolds and fuel pumps from my engine to the NTC - intake/exhaust routing, automotive vs. ag pump, etc. What are the chances of being able to swap these parts? thanks, Pat PS: I'm assuming that an N14 is an electronic motor, but is it pretty much self contained (sensors, ecu, etc) and just needs power, fuel, start signal and throttle linkage (it's not fly by wire is it?)? ![]() SW Ohio | Pat i haven't drug out my old books, but I am thinking an NTC could go all the way back to a 220 small cam or up to a big cam 4, and the N14 was mechanical at first and electronic later, but is stll the same basic 855 block that has been around a long time. What year is the army truck supposed to be? reread your post and am confused, is the army one puported to be an N14? maybe similar inside but lots of difference outside. FWIW I have NTA 380 small cam that needs overhauled that I am not using, it runs but smokes.

![]() Brazilton KS | The pump from your 9170 should fit the m916 engine just fine. It will fit an N14 also, but the m916 never had a N14. We just had a variable speed mechanical pump built and installed on the N14 on our 9370 Quadtrac, and we own an m915A1, so i'm pretty sure I still remember what I'm talking about.

SW Ontario | There is no reason you could not install a potentiometer that is controlled by your throttle. Other than that everything is self contained. I special ordered a electronic 855 BC III for my 8640 repower. The beauty is for about $2 you can install field cruise with the electronic version.

cropsey, il 61731 | I don't anything about the military trucks, but the auction listing http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view?id=4428954&categoryId=10... had it on there - would this be a 855 BC instead? Or, does the NTC designation cover the 855 bc, sc, whatever? thanks, Pat

Ohio | Pat becareful what you buy off of that site. When they say to inspect before bidding--you'd better do it. I made the mistake a year ago on buying a Allis Chalmers motor, a 426. The engine I got was not what was advertised, but I did not inspect before hand. I will not make that mistake again. If the motor your looking at is in Columbus Oh. , I may be able to check it out for you. E-mail is in my profile. Besides I might be interested in parts from your east coast purchase, and hows that coming along?
