WC-OH | Need some advice on were to start, 1978 Big Bud with the 1150, when working it suddenly shuts down. Not really familar with the 1150 but it has a button to push and hold for 5 sec. after it fires maybe for oil pressure?? Where should we start?? TIA
Does not do it all the time maybe once or twice a hour |

Crawfordsville, Arkansas | Little red button in the dash? MurphySwitch for oil pressure. They go bad from time to time. Got an actual oil pressure gauge on it anywhere? |

Regina/ 14 miles South of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan | Hi: Not familiar with 1150 - but what you describe sounds like a Murphy switch on the tractor. There can be a number of sensors wired in - we have a Cougar I that had a Murphy tie in for coolant level - it was a gauge on the side of the rad...
A few shots in the dark: 1. - Either on part of the button, or wired to it there should be a block with a number of wires coming into it - that will tell you how many sensors are wired in - Could be oil pressure, engine temp possibly coolant level. You might want to check the connections on the sending units - some times they're spade lug crimps, they can either be loose on the crimp, or corroded....
You could have a bad sending unit for any of the sensor points -
Hope this helps

WC-OH | Yes there is a oil pressure gauge watched it very close with no dramatic change |

Southeast Florida | I've been on a few Big Budd's including the 747 when it was at Willowbrook Farms and they had a Murphy automatic shutdown control box like used on irrigation power units. The oil pressure or water temperature can be set to high or low shutting down the engine. If that's the case take the 1/16 allen wrench and move them to a different setting. |

ECMN | Does it have a beeper or flasher in the dash that beeps or flashes until the oil press comes up when you start it? (or when you push the over-ride button to start it this may shut the warnings off as well) If so when the Murphy is shutting it down then that should go off until shut down. However those could have been disconnected. I have installed many of these in delivery vans for a company I worked for, the boxes we put in would allow 15 second before they would cut the circuit. The time parameter can be different depends on what is chosen. If it has gauges similar to this (link) by grounding (shorting across to the rim of the gauge) the small round metal knob that stick through the gauge glass (just below the 'er' in cleaner on the gauge shown) you will activate the shut down system. Also like Fla says just to the left of that knob is the adjustment point. The box could be bad but most likely wiring. On the systems we used all that the gauges did was send a ground signal to the box which would activate the shut down timer count down, so a wire grounding out would do it. Recently someone on here posted a nice picture of the cab of their Big Bud but I searched for it and could not find the photo to see if it had these type gauges. Hope this helps

WC-OH | Thanks guys for the advice will start to inspect connections first and go from there.
It does have a buzzer in the dash but i think its for air pressure, I think its a grounding issue, or bad connonection but did not realize there could be more than one sensor.
When you say cut the circuit makes me wonder, We are running a deere auto steer on this with a 1800 display, when you turn the key off yhe 1800 beeps and saves settings like normal, but when this thing shuts the motor down the 1800 goes blank, instantly we restart and have to start over with the auto steer, so how is the circuit cut differently than like turning off the key??
