Hey, I have a 150 acre farm in Pennsylvania and am looking into getting some new equipment. Right now, I need a utility tractor to replace a Kubota 4630 which is simply too small and thus constantly overheats. I have a New Holland TN75 which I use in my vegetable operation but is generally tied up by some of the other people who work on my farm. My thought is that I want to get a machine about identical in size to the New Holland, perhaps just slightly smaller, so that I can spray my fruit trees in my orchard. The machine I've been looking at is the JD5325. Does anyone have experience running this tractor? I've heard that there were some problems with the engines in earlier models, but otherwise the tractor is a pretty good machine. I've bought a John Deere CT332 from the local JD dealer and he seems like a good guy so I'd prefer to buy a machine from him. The New Holland TN75 that I have has been less than satisfactory so I'd prefer to get a Deere machine.

south east SD | My cousin has had a 5300, 5310, and a 5320 I believe and he loves them. Has a loader and FWA and cleans floors of manure, feeds cattle and all little odd jobs. Has no cab so he can go into small places. He has never had trouble with an engine as far as I know. Trades every 3000 hours or so to keep it updated. He looked hard at a Case IH but went the JD way.

northern chester county PA | You should be happy with the 5325 . Some of the first 5000 series had some "problems " if used hard ". As the newer series came out problems seem to be less . Are you looking at a cab model or open station ? . What dealer are you working with ? If you dont mind me asking . Not the number of dealers around here that there was years ago .

I'm planning on getting the isolated open station platform with a 24 by 24 trani and the maximum amount of weight possible up front. The dealer I'm dealing with is Pikeville Equipment in Oley, Pa. They are about 45 minutes away from my farm, although that's really the closest AG tractor dealer around at all.

Sunnyside, WA | We have a 5225, bought it new in April 2005. 2wd, 12 speed power reverser, not much else fancy about it. Has almost 2000 hours on it now, and this tractor pretty much gets abused. Biggest complaint is the wiring system on the tractor, but that has more to due with manure and getting washed everyday. Cracked a rear rim from poor welding a couple months ago, but that was replaced under warranty. Broke both lower 3pt hitch arms, but it is used for 3pt work 99% of the time. I actually thought 2000 hours was decent for them. I really like the wet clutch and that was the main selling point on the tractor. Has plenty of power for what we do with it and I would buy another to replace this one someday, but I hope that's a long way off. I have bought a 5325 in Oct. 2005 and have been very happy using it daily, now with 1063 hours on it. I've drove other people's 5310s and 5320s, but JD has the controls arranged in the 5325 to be just perfect. (I have the straddle model due to low doorway clearence issues, the isolated platform has a different set of controls that is the same as the cab model.) I'm still impressed at how well the electric shuttle works at any speed or throttle position. You might want to get the variable speed shuttle option, less then $200 extra. Last year a larger (and much older) tractor broke down in the middle of 4x4 round baling, had to use the JD. Now I won't switch back. No clutch or gear changes necessary to stop and wrap twine, and I don't have to move the throttle off of max PTO speed. Just use the shuttle to click from neutral to forward again. No jerk, and starts ahead gradually even at high RPMs. Faster baling and more hours worked without tiring = more bales rolled up before rain. My only beef about the design is that the single or double hydraulic remotes don't have a dedent position for constant pressure, for hydraulic motors or wood splitters ( IH has had that for over 30 years). Only available with triple remotes (big $$$$), and cannot be upgraded without changing the whole setup. Cheaper to buy a new gas-powered woodsplitter then upgrade the remotes for a 3PH style. My only mechanical problem was last summer when the manual primer pump on the fuel filter started to leak like a seive, but we just used the tractor anyways. JD mechanic came into the field to change it out inbetween loads of hay, dealer covered it under warranty. Only other problem is that the operation of turn signals is all screwed up, but the hazards flash fine. Maybe it's due to the calves chewing the wiring....

What exactly is the variable speed shuttle option? Is it something in addition to the 24 by 24 power-reverser transmission? I know there are buttons which allow one to change speed up or down by 20 percent, is this the variable speed shuttle option?

No. Its a rotary knob on the left side of the dash. You use it to set the speed of action of the PowerReverser, from very gradual to very quickly. If you buy the tractor without it, and find the "one - speed fits all" action of the PR not to your liking, the variable speed option can be added on later. The 24F/24R transmission is the same as the 12F/12R, except with the addition of buttons for two-speed powershift ( for "inbetween" speeds) in any gear. Like the electric torque amplifier in CaseIH. The speed of the power shuttle in the New Holland TN series can only be changed by the dealer plugging in a computer to reprogram it. When I got the JD I let my neighbour, who drives a TN75 and was a former dealer, use my tractor and he said the JD has a better system.
