Pittstown, NJ | Well, a person helping me ran my little NH254 into a fencepost. This poor old thing has bounced over too many acres in its life and wasn't able to rake anymore, only ted. Rather than repair it, I think it's time to go to a four rotor tedder. Budget is limited. I've looked at a new Pequea at the local dealer and it is built like the USS New Jersey (and priced accordingly). AGCO-MF-Claas dealer has a new Claas on the lot, also out of my range. There is also a new Krone at another dealer, but haven't inquired on it. Only a few used units are around, one Deutz-Allis (old and worn out), a 3-year old Kuhn (nice but priced almost as much as a new one) and a New Holland 163. The last one I have not been able to look at yet. There are those First Choice tedders around new, but they look just like the AGCO New Idea that my friend has so many durability problems with. |

SCPA | I had a Deutz Fahr tedder, take my word for this, do NOT go there. The NH is probably just a rebadged Kuhn. |

Chilliwack BC | We've run a couple New Holland 163 's for quite a few years and there's no durability issues to worry about. Only put teeth and a few other small parts into them. If you buy one I'm sure you'll be happy with it. We have a 169 now which is the 6 rotor version of the 163 but have hardly used it yet.
As for the New Holland being a rebadged Kuhn, that may possibly be. When we got ours 12 years ago the New Hollands and Deere's were the same machine and I don't think either company made them. That doesn't mean its a poor machine though. |

Little River, TX | I agree on the Deutz Fahr tedder.
An option I liked when using fixed tine tedder was a cylinder to change the pitch of the machine. That was I could adjust the clearance of the teeth on the over. At the ends I could level the machine out and turn over hay that had been tedded. Did not readjust the hay. I could also go from field to field with out getting off the tractor and cranking the tilt.
As with the NH 254, my favorite rake or tedder, watch the PTO RPMs to stir the hay not sling it out of the county.
If I had the money and notion, I would get a Hesston Rake Tedder machine.
What did you do to the 254? Any salvage parts? |

| What would you salvage of a 254?

Virginia | We use a NH 163 and haven't had any trouble with it. However, the next one we get will be hydraulic fold. Don't like the way the 163 folds but maybe the others are just as bad. |

Chilliwack, British Columbia | nice looking pic, seems to look familiar? must be a second machine just like that coming soon too? |

| the second jack screw in as many yrs. on my 163, parts were 136.00. Theres only 3/8 of a inch of steel holding the whole unit up with a little roll pin holding everything. I looked at a Vermeer at the FSR and it looks a lot heavier. |
