Anyone remember when the last BF Goodrich Silvertown farm tires were made?  I'm talking the real BF Goodrich, not the brand owned by Michelin.    I just bought a never-been used 16.5L16.1 and after seeing that name on the side and the old wide groove tread pattern, got to wondering how long it had been around.

I don't remember when the last were made, but do remember dad being disappointed when he had ordered four 2590's back in the early 80's and they came with BFG Silverton R2's instead of Firestones's. They said firestones pulled better.

Along about 1986, that's about the same time they merged with Uniroyal. I know there was a 1975 4430 here with 14L X 16.1 Silvertown's on the front

I don't know exactly when the quit them, but I remember our Deere 4030 and 2640 both came with Silvertown tires. Our 4630 came out of eastern North Carolina with SafeMark R2 tires on the back. I have a 4630 (different one) that has 16.5x16.1 safemarks on the front to this day. They are dry looking, but in good condition with plenty of rib left.

We had an '82 JD 4840 with 20.8-38's, r-2's bought new with them. I recall about 5 yrs later they were getting like some banana's and went with Firestone R-2's, and they weren't available at that time, nor would we would have replaced with the BFG

The tractor had the 16.5-16.1's on the front and they were BFG also. Didn't last well.

We had a 78 4440 that had a set. Dad bought 3 4 post 4440s, consecutive SNs and all 3 had different brand rear tires.

Lol....you guys down there where it's so temperate all summer and your open station tractors.  You'd think with the heat, humidity, and bugs there would have been a little more appreciation for air conditioning!

Problem back then was that A/C wasn't so reliable. A cab tractor in the south without A/C is worse than an open tractor.

Our Greatplains drills were about '88 and 90 something and they had Uniroyals that looked like BFGs.  I didn't realize (or had forgotten) that there was a connection there.  The BFG plant was right down in OK so you'd think I would have a better idea then I do.

Neighbor's 2640 had BFG 11L15s on it.  Those were very nice looking 3 rib tires.  Brothers ordered a pair for our 4010 and they were crap...the tubeless tires had big meaty looking treat on them, but the tube type looked like innertubes.

My best friend's family when I was a kid had a bunch of the Safemark 3 ribs...two-twenty and 4630 both had them.  I remember they had real flat, meaty tread on them.  I wouldn't be surprised if they are still on the tractors...the 46 has been beached for quite a few years now and the two-twenty has had an auger mounted on it since the '80s.

When a new tractor would show up out here with a/c, the first thing my grandad would do was cut the a/c belt and tell the guys to take the glass out, we'd "put it back in when it got cold and you needed it". Of course, "getting cold" down here was probably the end of September IF the temp got down in the 50's! He always said a/c would spoil you. Can remember spending 12+ hours a day on a open cab 1370 discing set a side way back when. Betcha couldn't find anyone to do that today.

Heck, the construction guys still run all kinds of open station stuff.

My backhoe has a cab, and with the exception of winter, I would much rather have open station on it, windows are always dirty and makes it hard to see. There is also something about windows that make judging distance more difficult.

Our track hoe has cab but no a-c.  Most of the windows were missing when we got it.  We replaced them,,,not real fond of loading litter with no cab.  It needed ac today!    I dumped it off and then stayed to run it to load a few acres worth...seemed like that pile just wouldn't end.  Should have brought water.

Seconded. That is the reason currently I don't have a cab tractor, I would rather have a breeze than a hotbox, and I hate to butcher up a cab tractor.

The outside duals on our IH 1066 are the Goodrich tires that came on the tractor.
