Subject: Marker Sequencing Valve

Tennessee
My marker sequencing valve is not working correctly on a 7300 Deere planter. The part # is AA38587. I would like to get this fixed as cheap as possible. Is it possible to rebuild the valve? I don't have a shop manual for the planter. Also, does anyone know a good used or aftermarket source for the valve. After I check with Deere today, I feel sure I will be needing other options...

The symptom is that the markers will raise up but not back down. I raised them one time, and that is all it has ever done.

I get a list price of $488.80 on the JD parts page for that number. I'm interested also as I have the same problem on the 7300 planter I sold. Wasn't a problem for me with GPS--I just took the markers off. But when I sold it I said I would fix it. Maybe just take the valve off my "new to me" planter for that price!

That's a pretty good bending over right there. I knew it would be ridiculous.

These valves are very subject to getting dirt in them. They are on the receiving end of a lot of dust and dirt every time you plug them in or out. They also sit unused for much of the year and get condensation inside and rust.

You can sometimes fix them just by disassembling, cleaning and putting them back together (the same way, hopefully!) May need some seals. Good luck.

Thanks Jim, I'll try this first, if it doesn't work I'll buy the $85 one and plumb it in.

Is that a direct replacement for Mother Deere's part? Hose ports the same? I have replaced one in the past and currently own two planters with this valve. For less than a hundred bucks I would get one to put on the shelf.

Driftless SW Wisconsin

While the Cross valve pictured MAY work, it is NOT the same valve used by OEM's and Deere. The ports look different also. Just look at the number of ports on that valve (3) and compare to the number of ports on your JD valve. The cross valv looks like it is for single acting cyclinders. The description says it can be used on double acting cylinders (most US planter markers) but I sure don't see how without a lot of extra plumbing and maybe a second valve. Be careful. If it looks to good to be true it probably is.

I had ours act up one time when the planter was just a couple years old. Only right marker would go down. Finished field then took valve apart back in yard. Tiny piece of metal in it, figured it was there from birth and just took awhile to get caught somewhere. So.... like Jim said, very carefully take yours apart and clean it well.

Look at their specs page for how to hook it up for doubles. Only the "lower" side flows through it.

Could be. My only point is that the cross valve is not a direct replacement for the Deere oem valves that I am familiar with. Jim at Dawn

Be careful with that valve or any other non Deere valve. The adapters or extra hoses mounting bracket, and other headaches could eat up any "savings" on aftermarket valves.

On my 7200 12R30, the right marker always settles down in about 15 seconds. I've capped the lines to the cylinder and it wont so I eliminated the cylinder. I took the valve all apart and cleaned it. It was clean as could be inside and the right marker still settles down. The book says if a marker arm settles, inspect P2 port. P2 & R2 have the same valve and seat so I even switched them and still the same. I unscrewed the line going into R2 and capped it. The marker stays up. I looked at the exploded view on JD parts. My valve looks like part # AA38587and I see an Oring # 13 in the pic on the spool # 14 in the picture. I did not find that oring in my valve. I'm going to take it apart again to see if it's stuck inside. Should you be able to slide the spool through the valve with no resistance? This one hangs up slightly. Other than the oring and the valve barely binding, I saw nothing else wrong.

I took it apart and the oring was in the bore so I replaced it. That's what the spool was binding on a little. Changing this made no difference.

The extra hose and line only saved me $350 and an hour of my time. Well worth it in my opinion.

Valve worked fine. Made in US. High quality and saved me lots of money.
