Subject: John Deere 9520

I am looking at purchasing a used 9520. What do I need to be carefu about? Do these tractors have any issues? I currently have a 8450, so this is a big upgrade. Thanks

I bought a 9620 a couple years ago and really like the tractor. I got 2100 hrs on it and so far so good.

Not that I have heard of, but I only know of 20 series 4wd's with about 5,000 hours on them. I bet some others on the forum would have some feedback on this question.

I would pull the drain oil plug of front and rear diff. had a friend with a 9620 had to replace both, cost him over $50,000. He bought tractor new, never was run low and does good maintance. Was about 3000 hrs.on when front went out in 2009 and rear 2010, not sure.

I'd make sure you research where it's been and what it's been doing. Lots of 9520's are used on scrapers. We've run several big tractors on scrapers for 30 years and never had a problem but a lot of the construction guys are ROUGH on the machinery. I'd also be curious to know if the one with the differential problems had spent most of its life on a tile plow (lowspeed-high torque).

No just pulled a digger in spring and ripper or mowboard plow in fall.

There was a bearing issue with certain 9620's... I had the same problem with mine. Rear went out, front never had a problem. But they had to check the axle endplay on the front just to make sure.

They are great tractors, the PS is very nice and they are a dream to run after the 50 series(we upgraded from 8850's to our 9520). We use ours for pulling the drill, grain cart, and double pans and have no complaints at all, 6000 plus hours and very few issues.

jd4930 what size tires do you run on yours. we have a 9520 with 800 metric duals and wondered if it would work on the grain cart with the duals left on? have a 35ft platform with 26ft augar and it gets a little tight. would pull a 1194 brent cart
