Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit! | I have a Kt 450 that Im thinking about putting in a little needlenose KW I was just curious what the differences between a KT 450 and a KTA 600 are, Im probably going to put an air to air aftercooler and wastegated turbo on the truck, Ive also got the book for injector and fuel button codes, but was curious if the internals were built any different between KTA's and straight KT's or are all the 1150s the same internals ? Thanks |

Extreme SW Minnesota Iowa border | Yikes, you are going to need a shoe horn for that one. Can you post pictures when you are done?

Roseglen, North Dakota | For starters, KTA has aftercooler, it goes on and on from there. Unless you are planning on overhauling the engine anyway, it will get costly because more than likely the pistons, injectors, heads, and turboes are different. Simplest way to compare notes is get CPL of the 450, then look in Cummins CPL book at the different 600's and compare internal components. I would wager it would be cheaper to start with a 600. |

Nth New South Wales Australia | We had a KTA in a blue 1156 Versatile, last of series sent out to Australia. So far as the engine went we did 10,000 hrs and all I ever put into it was new injectors @ 7,000 hrs and a over-head done every 1,500 hrs. Pump was not stock setting from near new but had not been touched in 10k hrs. Turbo was original.
I know that we got a better run in the tractors than the guys running them in trucks as there was a lot out here in trucks on Road train work before the "big" hp smaller blocks came into vogue. Seems that excessive revs was/could be a downfall in the truck application as if one got away or was driven too hard dropped valves was normally the result. Biggest drawback now for them is cost of rebuilding is massive, most have been pulled and a C15/16 or Signature 600 put in its place for the same money as a rebuild.

Slicker than a Yes album. | Can you still get parts pretty easy or will cummins stop supporting them at some point? Got any pics of your 1156? |

| As far as I know Cummins started making this engine again or some version of it. Check out the biggest Deere silage chopper, QSK19 powered.

Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit! | We are going to use a couple air to air aftercoolers instead of an air to water cooler, We also are going to use different turbo. Things like injectors, turbos aren't an issue, The engine has a fresh rebuild, thats why im curious if the heads/ pistons are the same |

Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit! | Whats your definition of a lot of money, Ive got a ben franklin in my pocket, first time in years, I feel rich :) |

Leeds, North Dakota | This sounds like one heck of a project, cpl # of both engines and talk to Cummins, compression ratio I would bet is different, would do some home work, Scott. |

North Liberty and South Bend, Indiana | Check out this site and get ahold of a Bruce Mallinson. They know everything about Big Cams and the 1150's. http://www.pittsburghpower.com/
Also might read through the articles here, scroll down about half-way to the horsepower & torque articles. Somewhere they talk about the BIG blocks. http://www.pittsburghpower.com/support/viewforum.php?f=7&sid=4cf155...
Typically all Cummins engines in a family are identical except compression, turbo, fuel rate, injectors, and timing. A 310 Big Cam and a 444 Big Cam pistons are identical, just the fore mentioned differences. |

Nth New South Wales Australia | I don't have any on this current computor but I did send some years ago into Peter Simpson at the toytractorshow website as he was doing pages for the 4wd tractors of those years. If you go to the 1156/1150 page there are some pics of our tractor on the main page,it is the blue one. Should be three pics of it including one sitting on a truck so we could get it over a narrow bridge. Mike. |
