cropsey, il 61731 | Here we go again. After pricing parts to redo the continental 6 cyl in the old hyster (P60?) I decided my money was better spent elsewhere. Of course my next step resulted in me working on getting the ebay seller to return my money because apparently he doesn't own any lifts and he wanted $4900 from me (forced tithing?). I still need to get a lift and pretty soon to finish a few projects. My current choices include just missing a gradall telehandler for $7000 (far away, online auction and no info and yes I chickened out on the bid button), a little newer hyster H80C that runs ok but still has the old conti engine, but has dual front tires and pretty big rear tires or a JD forklift (the tractor turned backwards). My comparison points are: The hyster is cheapest at $4500 and the JD is $6000 but has a rebuilt diesel engine. Telehandlers for $7000 may not be worth buying and are rare The JD is pretty long and is pretty much a no go for working in the shed (telehandler might turn better in 4ws mode), hyster is almost small enough The JD will handle the occasional run across the back yard between sheds with no issue (as would a telehandler). the hyster has smaller rear wheels, but they are nearly the same size as the front tires on a 4000lb pneumatic tire lift - maybe it works on all but the softer spring days (dual fronts, larger rears = some flotation I guess I said all that to ask if H80 with the way it's 'tired up' floats enough to get around in grass once in a while or does it actually have just enough tire to keep it from sinking through concrete? thanks, Pat (Hyster.jpg) (jd lift.jpg) (alien cat.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Hyster.jpg (71KB - 797 downloads) jd lift.jpg (8KB - 586 downloads) alien cat.jpg (40KB - 579 downloads)

Embarrass WI | One note-the Gradall telehandlers are not 4 wheel steer. They are rear steer only. When I was looking for a telehandler, I had found what I thought was a good deal on a Gradall until my brother(who works with TH's every day at his construction job)pointed that out. In some situations it can make a big difference.

| http://www.ironplanet.com/jsp/s/item/305260?h=405-1%2C4950 Other than the green color and a marginal oil sample in the tranny, seemed to be a pretty decent buy!!! Dont really know how it would get that much iron in the tranny other than from trying to shift the 4 spd without it being in Neutral. Even if you had to spend 3-4K on tranny work, still in the money for the hours. Shipping could be LTL, ours came on the tail board of a van trailer headed to Cheyenne,WY with train parts. http://www.ironplanet.com/jsp/s/item/292154?h=405-1%2C4950 Better yet a jigsaw puzzle telehandler | |||

North Central Iowa | That's not entirely true, although it may be true now. I'm not a telehandler expert by any means, but I had a neighbor in Ohio with a Gradall that I used and worked around and his machine definitely had selectable 4 wheel steering. I don't know the model and it was an older machine. Mike

| Tim, you are wrong with your statement. I have used 3 different Gradalls this past year and they all had functioning 4 wheel steer as well as crab steer. | |||

cropsey, il 61731 | It looks like this will be the way I'm going - 247T sellick - aka sanderson or JCB. It even looks like it will be a deal where I go down to Ky, look it over, pay for it and take it home - that's a lot different than send money then get nothing (my last attempt). Anyway, this almost telehandler looks to be a good combination of what I need a forklift to do and the extending boom gives me more functionality. I'm getting a short video of it running today to further keep the deal on the 'up and up'. Also, I'm considering different trailer options. The sellick weighs around 9000lbs and I have a 12K lb tandem trailer (8 bolt hubs which usually means 7Klb axles). I think this combination would work, but I had a hyster A18? (6000lb rough terrain lift) and it seemed plenty heavy for the trailer and truck (I drove 45mph from indiana to central IL and dreded any bump I hit). I guess my question is really whether or not these generic 12K lb trailers are really meant to carry anything near their rating? thanks, Pat
