What to look for in a late model used Case-IH 4x4? Which models to stay away from if any?

8010 combines had the iveco in 2004 and starting with the 380/430 and 480 Stiegers. This was in 2006-07. The 530/535 still use the QSX15 Cummins. They have been a very trouble free engine. There have been few troubles with the steiger series tractors.

PLEASE paint them Steiger green again. I don't need one but would probably consider "just because" if they were green again. I dreamed of a Steiger green tractor when I was a boy!

Anyway, the few that are around here, mostly row-crop versions, have been pretty bullet proof.

Most of the problems I had with the STX tractors, and this was a 450 Quadtrac, was with the terminators on the harness, and hydraulic hoses. I really equate most of those problems to the vibration problem that these tractors have when roading them, and this one saw plenty of road time. Not sure this would be near as problematic on a wheel version.

Did have the tranny fail, couple of bearings, but I have a feeling that was due to its previous life on a pan. HD usually designates a "scraper tractor", and if it was anything but owner/operator, some the loose bolts that get to be behind the wheel can be plenty hard on them.

The big horse here is still red, STX485, but went wheeled this time. Had enough of the track version.

Really does look much better in the Steiger green, than the red.

Good tractor, terminators would be only issue, has tranny been calibrated? should shift smooth, if not spendy, Scott.

scott, tell me more about the shifting please.

Our 375 shifts rougher than we expected. We are used to the PS on a 9370/9180 and find that our STX isn't any smoother (except the 6-7 shift on the older ones). Anything to check. Its still at the Case dealer. What should we ask them to check?

I hadn't seen much with the new steigers. We have alot of them in our area. Just the normal stuff with any machine. Engines hold up good and plenty of horesepower. But really it all depends on how the tractor was treated by the operator. Have a group down here now with 12 of them and they love them. All of them are pulling two 18 yard pans. Good fuel econemy to out of the ivecos.

Tell them to get the oil hot and calibrate the trans and download new software to the trans contr. I have fixed alot of them by doing that.

I would think sales would go up with an option of the Steiger green paint. We all know that paint does sell product.
