Crawfordsville, Arkansas
Looking at a 2005 and up Rhino's right now for the farm. Are there any years to stay away from? What is the top speed? 50mph or so?

We've narrowed it down to either a Rhino or Ranger. I see positives and negatives with both.

I would second the 700efi post. I have a Grizzly 660 and am very pleased with it but it is the coldest natured machine I have ever had. Again I really like the 660 but if I had it to do over I would have waited and gotten the fuel injected one. My impression that when you get into the larger cc engines they are much better if they are fuel injected regardless of brand.

3rd that nomination.

Now....Which year was it they had trouble with the damn things heating and it would die and leave an operator walking to get to his pickup? It would only happen when sitting at an idle like when spraying muskthistle. If you were going down the road you were ok but sitting in one spot the fan couldn't push enough air through the rad. Seems like 05 to 07 this was an issue but I am having trouble remembering.

Our 2004 Rhino serves us well on the farm but it is cold natured. My step son likes his 2004 and he has really used it on the trails. My bil used his 2004 like a golf cart. It was like new when he sold it. No problems, he just likes to sell off stuff.

Top speed on mine is 50 with an aftermarket CDI. It's almost as fast with the factory parts but I hate to hear the limiter miss when I put my foot in it. It feels pretty stable at 50 in the corn field.

Good Luck,
Dave

I have had both and would rather have the Ranger on my farm. I had the first year Rhino and when we parted ways I said I would never own another Yamaha again.

Ours is last year of 660 and have had no problems with it - it is about 40 top speed but that is fast enough as far as I am concerned - bought the Rhino because it would go in back of pickup but found that we hardly ever load it anyway so I would probably go for a wider machine next time

Local dealer has had several break when a cdi box was added. too many rpm I guess. The rhino forum has mentioned it too. I'm like the previous poster, 40 mph is fast enough to hurt if you hit something.

So whats the excuse doing more then 40 in a pickup or car? For some reason a glass in front of your face to hit makes it better?

Well for one thing, my pickup has real tires on it, not inner tubes with tread on them for tires. Go ahead drive 90 on your at.v, i don't give a ****

LOL

Maybe you should put new tires on your atv. I thought we were talking about UTV's though... side by sides.. not ATV's?

Since you seem to be such a scholar... Are the UTV/ATV tires only rated for 40 mph? If so, would you be so kind as to explain why my Honda from the factory will do 63 mph and is not a safety hazard?

LOL.... Drive in the ditch Gramma but stay out of the peoples way that dont wear tin foil hats.

ATV or UTV whats the difference. Like I said I really don't care how fast you go. Has far as the Granma comment I'm willing to bet I've owned way more fast stuff than you'll believe. Hell I've got a 10 sec car in the shed right now. Wanna a pic? Owned 1100cc Arctic Cat snowmobiles that would kill you in a sec if you screw up. My son drives a dirt modified. Maybe the reason I'm still alive at age 61 is that I know where to go fast and where not to.

I'm almost 40 and still climbing and I know too when to use caution with a pedal and when to stomp it to the floor. Open road... There is no reason to ding dong around at 40 mph trying to get somewhere.

And Yes, I do want to see a pic of your car. I never was intersted much in circle jerks. Straight track is where its at.

I wouldn't be suprised if you've owned faster vehicles or modes of transportation. I wouldn't even be suprised if you have went faster but I can tell you right now any sort of speed kills and I've never pussyfooted around getting somewhere when I needed to and a bit of common sense about driving goes a long ways.

So Yes, this thread is enough pages back now it doesn't matter if it gets hijacked. I want to see pics of that car. Not to prove you own it... Just because I have a vested interest in that sort.
