18c ditch system, winthrop Mn | We had a deere 450 hydro-push that worked well for years, other than the fact that it dumped manure in piles. Before that we had a few deere 34 that did a better job of spreading but had the chain issues.

Baden, Ontario | Hagedorn 245. Spreads beautiful. Built very heavy. Replaced a few bearings and that is all. Probably will break down next week!

Denhoff,ND right in the center of the State | We run a 3550 Myers, been a real good spreader, it is 550 bushel and spreads real nice, takes at least 150hp minimum tractor, not hp just a good heavy tractor to pull it, if there is snow or ice it wants to push the tractor around.

| I used a Kuhn 600 bu? vertical beater spreader this fall. Awesome job of spreading. Takes a good sized tractor, weight and HP. I had it behind a 2-155 White with weights on the front and duals on the back. I wouldn't have wanted a smaller tractor or a bigger spreader. If I had a lot of manure to spread I'd have a vertical beater spreader of one brand or another. | |||

![]() Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | Forty-plus years of manure spreading, the Hagedorn hydra-push spreader was the best for us. We now use an Artex spreader. It holds about three times what the largest Hagedorn would hold at the time we bought the Artex. The Artex box has been good to us. The undercarriage, not so much. As I understand it, Artex is now building their own undercarriages. I suspect that's probably a good thing. Good luck with your decision, gordon Edited by briggsfm 12/31/2010 05:40

Chilliwack, British Columbia | Gordon, I can't remember, did you get your box made in Canada, or was it an early American version? Apparently the American company uses cheaper steel in the undercarriage (on the smaller boxes anyway) and guys here are having trouble with them. As for the original question, I think the Hagedoorn is also a good spreader. We bought a Leon, very similar to the Hagedoorn, but seems to be built a big cheaper. lighter steel, less hardware where there should be more. Does a decent job, but I would prefer vertical beaters or spinners. Glenn

South Central MN | We have had a Kuhn/Knight Hydrapush 2054 Verti-Spread for a few years now. Pull it with an IH 5488 MFD. You do know it is back there. Excellent spread pattern. Once the cylinder has compressed the manure in the spreader it is a constant spread all the way until empty. No piles. It sure beats dealing with apron issues. We are just east of you granto, by Henderson.

Baden, Ontario | Oops, I said 245, I meant 225. Not a huge spreader but a nice size for our beef feedlot. You can really heap them with pen pack. These spreaders are made in Paisley, Ontario. Their Dealer Network is not huge but their spreaders are very popular here. Have a friend in Wisconsin who came up and hauled his own down about 2 or 3 years ago. Saved alot of money because of the dollar, not sure if the savings would be as good now. I can try and get you a Phone # if you need.

Lincoln County. NC | If all your box spreader experience was with Deere, you never had a decent one, let alone a good one. The only spreaders worse than Deere were IH.

ecmn | hagadorn has treated us unbeleivably well for pen pack or sloppy manure. if a box spreader is what your looking at i couldnt say enough good about it. rent a knight chain to spread fly ash or lime. the hagadorn wont push that stuff out. but the chain spreader reminds me of how nice the hagadorn is!!

They bought one. there we hauled semi liquid outs the tie stall ( barn cleaner into a manure augar with finely chooped straw bedding) to penpack with cemnet chunks ( guy was cleaning in winter and seems old cement was froze to manure but busted up cracked ect) Worked well, also at Del MOnte they got 2 with verticle beaters, been cleaning out the ponds so they been spreading Sloppy mud with them. NCNE, OM ~ 1.5, CEC ~ 9.0 | After reading every manure spreader thread on AgTalk and speaking with the major commercial spreader in our area, I purchased a used SpreadAll spreader which is manufactured by West Point Manufacturing in West Point, NE. Basically, I can't imagine anyone being harder on their equipment than these commercial guys and while they are always fixing leaf springs and attending to their trucks, they seldom have issues with the spreaders and we've always been satisfied with the performance. Since my only experience is with this machine, I can't compare and contrast to others but I've been happy so far. ![]() Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | Hi Glenn, After Artex was sold, (brain fart, can't remember who bought them) the new company had a hard time figuring out what undercarriage we have on our Artex. They've concluded it is an undercarriage made in Italy. I guess towards the end of Artex's "days", they were getting undercarriages from a few different sources. Which is something I wouldn't think is very good to efficiently manage. Oh well. You mentioned beaters. We have a vertical beater currently on our Artex. But initially we had their horizontal beater until the vertical was built. The vertical can bust up whatever product we put in the spreader better than the horizontal. I think the vertical beater will have less maintenance cost relative to the horizontal. However, the horizontal gave us a much better spread pattern with our sawdust manure. Since sawdust manure is ninety-five percent of what we handle, if I had it over to do again, I think I would have purchased the horizontal beater. The horizontal was less cost than the vertical too. Oh well. take care Glenn, hope you have a great 2011, gordon

Chilliwack, British Columbia | Thanks for the reply Gordon. I think you are the first guy I have heard who mentions that he would rather have the horizontal beaters! But if that is what works better... From watching our neighbours, I do know not to use the beaters to pull the spreader out of the mud, they now have spinners! Happy New Year to you as welll! Stay warm! GLenn
