Oregon

Our 8100 has a very annoying sqeak that sounds like it is coming from around the steering wheel console area.  We have looked at it every winter for several years now and have always given up on locating anything.  I thought I'd throw it on here just in case someone has an idea of something to look for.  I tend to think I notice it more running the flail (PTO work) than doing heavy tillage (engine pulled down to a lower rpm) but my hired man has not noticed this pattern (the squeak doesn't annoy him either...so there you go.  lol).  Thank you for any possibilities to look for.

We had a similar annoying squeak in our 8400. Ended up putting a new window seal in and it fixed it. It had got dust between the window and the seal causing the squeak. Our first thought was the steering wheel area too.

loosen the bolts that hold the windshield in and pry windshield forward slightly and spray with silicne lube.

I have had a squeak coming from the cab mounts before on these tractors. What I have done is lift up the floor mat and the secondary floor mat just above the cab mounts and sprayed a lot of wd-40 in the holes where the bolts mount. I spray enough to where there is at least a quarter inch of wd-40 visible so that it will soak down around the bolts and rubber mounts. It normally doesn't fix it instantaneously. Normally takes at least 12 hours or so.

Have you had the hood off? Sometimes the very back thin metal on the back of the hood gets bent and touches the glass.

I can relate to bad squeak in 8100. Ours only happened as cab heated up. Would start at 10 or so in the morning and quit after sun went down! Replaced window seal and gaskets, problem solved. Such an annoying squeak!

NESD
This subject has been brought up several times, Do a search for window sqeek.

The following is what I posted in one thread and what I have done to numerous customers sprayers to stop the squeek.

The squeek is coming from either of two areas, one being the window has shifted to one side or the other and is contacting the cab post and when the window moves it squeeks or klunks, can be very hard to pin point, the other spot and the most likely is the channel at the bottom of the window that it rests in, remove the sheetmetal trim so the you can access the channel, it is held on with 3 or 4 screws, remove one at a time and lay a peice or 3M trim tape part number 6383 into the corner of the length of the channel, do not remove the orange sheath from the tape and reinstall the channel, there are three channels but the middle one is not accessable so put the tape on the outer ones, this serves as a shim to tighten the window and the sheath is very slippery so the window won't squeek when it does shift. then remove the clamp plates one at a time from the side posts that hold the window in place, make sure the window is centered in the window opening before going any further, now apply the trim tape to both sides of the plastic piece that is between the metal clamp and the window, do this to all clamps, this will keep the window from shifting again. you can slip a piece of the trim tape behind the top clamps by pushing in on the window,

I have done this to numerous customers sprayers and have not heard a complaint from anyone since.

The part number that I listed for the trim tape is a large roll and it is expensive, I have seen the same tape in smaller rolls at some auto parts stores such as Advance Auto, O'reillys,Etc.

Good Luck, I hope this helps

Thank You for the WD-40 ADVICE. Have a 8420 that has a squeaky windshield and is noisy, put my foot against it and it stops.Thought I would have to live with it till windshield broke.

The little piece of black tin on the back of the hood comes loose, or gets bent and rubs against the glass. Sometimes as simple as having a gravel rock or twig stuck in there. A little prybar or screw should solve the problem quickly.

I had squeek in my 8100, coming from the column area. Squeeks drive me nuts. In my case, it turned out to be the wiring harness from (if I remember right) the alternator rubbing on the outside of the glass right in front of the steering column. Local Deere's tech told me to check there first. Moved it and put a zip tie on it, ended the squeek.

Jon, If you follow Lil Hoss directions and solve the squeek, take pictures and make a wiki out of it. I've got the same problem, but haven't been able to make the time to start the project and I'm still not sure what some of his terms mean. Luckily, my sqeeks go away for time to time.

Here are the links. http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=127114&posts=1...

I have a 8400 that sqeaked so bad when i bought it at a farm sale I had to stop on the way home and fix it. I had the piece of sheet metal on the back of the hood rubbing the glass. I took a zip tie and tied it back to the steel lines so there is a good inch of clearence between the glass and the hood. Then I found the wiring harness that was running in the same area was rubbing the glass too. I also wire tied that back. It was still squeaking so i zip tied all of the autosteer hose down that were rubbing on the bottom of the cab. I thought i had it fixed untill i hit the first sprinkler track, then it went to sqeaking again. I finally found some stuff called Squeak Out. I took a small screw driver and pryed the window seal back and spray sqeak out all around the window seal. It quit for a long time, then i finally found out that the squeak was actually coming from behind the lights in front of the windshield. I took the light brackets off and spray sqeak out on the brackets and rubber pads. I put it all back together and it hasnt sqeaked a bit since. That was 300 hrs ago.

Thanks for the good description Brandon.  The consensus seems to be pointing toward the lights in front of the windshield so I'm going to take care of that first because it is the easiest.  If that doesn't fix it I will move on to the windshield seal.  Thank you.

Thank you Lil' Hoss for the detailed information.  I now see that you have given out this information many times.  I'm glad you have the patience to keep trying to help guys like me.  Thank you.

Lowell,  if I end up getting into the windshield seal I will give a crack at doing a wiki...I might figure it out  :)

Thanks to the rest of you guys for the information too.

I will second this. Remove front window, clean or replace front seal. Mechanic here will sometimes have to resort to putting silicon lubricant on the seal.
