I grew up with cougars and panthers. I currently have a pta 280 and pta 325. I know that these tractors are old and might not be high tech, but my 2 old girls will run cheap and dependable. If something happens I can fix it. I wish CASENH would not keep milking the steiger name. Thats my rant for today!!

Get over it. It's been 25 years since the color changed.

Not sure how they are milking the name since it is a company that they bought, it is still made in Fargo, and it is still a 4wd.

I like them green too. I will say the red versions painted green do look pretty cool. I bought this ST225 this fall. I love it and I wished I would have bought it years before. All those years of struggling with TWD tractors.

The inadequacy of the older Steigers quickly surfaces when you attach them to the newer implements. Also, Case IH did buy Steiger out, so they are entitled to do whatever they want to do with the name. Lastly, the newer Steigers carry a lot of traits from the older Steigers, so why not continue the name?

Actually, the vast difference between the newer and older Steigers is a perfect example of the true Steiger craftsmanship. Steiger always had trouble keeping things the same even within a single series.

IMO, Steiger ended when they painted them red and dropped the Cat engine option.

We had a Ford aka Stieger when I was younger, loved it and always wanted a PTA 325 with a dozer blade on the front. Maybe someday since they are getting cheaper it seems. Still an awesome tractor of the past and into the future.

We had a cougar st250 that was the first tractor that I spent much time in doing field work. To this day those are some of my fondest memories of my youth, an am radio with an eight track player and a 24 speed trans I was just tickled even after spending what seemed like and eternity greasing it every day.

Wishbone7803,it's something you have to get over, just be thankful some of Steiger lives on.As a diehard IH enthusiast, it pains me when everything C-IH is referred to as a Case.99% of what C-IH sells has IH heritage and was designed when we still had IH as a standalone company. It doesn't bother me much anymore as I've gotten older, because I know if Tenneco hadn't bought IH-ag,the red line would have been gone long ago and there wouldn't be IH trucks:{Navistar} still being built.I think most people refer to C-IH as Case simply because it's shorter to type. Most farmers that have lived in the past 90 years know Case-IH equipment is the old IH ag group for the most part.Be happy Steigers' are still being built and the name is proudly attached to the tractors, regardless of color.

Give it time, the CASE name will leave red equipment. Doubt if the Harvester part will ever reappear though.

I was not that upset. I have alot more issues that I need to "GET OVER" before this. It was just a guy on the computor after a long day and a few cold ones. I love to here the stories others share about these green machines. I truely think that for a mechanic/farmer that when maintained you get a great horse for the cost.

That was 30 years ago, I grew up on Steiger tractors and still own them.  I still think you get a great horse for the cost.

I have put many many hours on a ST 310 /855 Cummins and an ST 270/ 3306 Cat. Nothing cooler than to kick open the right hand cab door and listen to that Cummins roar pulling a 10-18's plow in corn stalks on a clear October day. Ah but sadly they have both left the farm but the old 310 resides only 5 miles away and next owner loves it as much or more than we did! It was replaced by a 9370 which doesnt have quite the power of the old 310 (which had been massaged a little) but I will say the hydruailic oil stays where it is supposed to on the 9370, and its not a constant battle to have the AC working.

We had a Ford, too - 903 Cummins that I know lots of folks hated, but worked great for us. I remember as a kid lusting over the Ford 4WD brochures. Our old Steiger Bearcat shelled out the planetaries, and my father bought an FW 30 to replace it. It was five or six years old, but the newest thing we had on our farm. It was awesome to be 14 years old, running that big rig! That is, until the air conditioner shot craps. And greasing it was a bear...I don't miss that at all.

Shhhh, don't tell anybody......but on my ST310 with EZ-Steer sometimes I like to kick open the door and stand on the step to stretch my legs. Sounds pretty good except for the ringing in my ears afterward.

North End I-15
When I was 8 and the cousin 9 , we were left @ home on the farm while the Uncle and Aunt went to town .
They had an old ford truck with grain box that had the locking steering wheel .
Of course the truck would start with the steering wheel locked , so we took turns driving it around in circles in the yard . It was so much fun the cousin decided to drive it faster . Well the faster we went the larger the circle became till we wound up tight to the grain bin . Backing up could not go fast enough to get the truck back into the area where whe started from .
When the Uncle got home it was obvious what we had done . We both got a good licking with a snow fence lath. :>)

That green Case IH looks bada$$. Sorry to hear you miss your brand. I miss my preferred as well, but at least the color is still available, small consolation that it is.
