Central Illinois | Frameless fifth wheel plates are made to pivot, unlike other trailers.

Don't need them one on a framed dump, the fifth wheel plate on a frameless dump will pivot, and if the fifth wheel on the truck is not pinned, they will flop back and forth. You do not want to drive a truck and trailer with that kind of movement. I bet if they are frameless, there is something in place to limit that pitch.

Flora IL | Yup. U don't want all of that moveing. Thanks smooth. I haven't looked it over yet. Just curious on what u guys have done

The Breakfast Club | Here's what I've got... Just tube welded underneath the rear of the 5th wheel and two pieces, one on either side of the plate...with a pin through it. 'Bout the simplest way. Then mount a couple small pieces of tube elsewhere on the frame for stowage of the pin when it's not needed. Make sure to grease up the pin every time you use it. The pin set up is the most common, couple of hundred dollars gets you the kit at most places. I usually bolt spacers front and rear, eliminates all movement, and fighting to get the pin out. Doing it this way also means that you do not have to weld under the fifth wheel.

Leeds, North Dakota | okay folks dumb question, why lock it, been around semis for quite some time is the purpose to keep plate flat, per smoothlanders pic, next question i have, if you can't dump air bags how do you hook trailer, got me curious, scott.

Need to keep the plate flat for frameless end dumps because the king pin plate on the trailer is made to pivot, you don't want two pivot points.

Leeds, North Dakota | got it, like beet boys use, guess my issues woulf be dump air bags and flat stable ground, have seen them, personally wouldn't work to well in this country, rather have a hopper trailer, lots of weight going up in the air, thanks, scott.
