I think the e series was the best of the Cat ag tractors, better ride and reliabilty than the deere. Not the fanciest cab, but very fuctional and comfortable. I stayed with Cat thu 2 Mt's before finally getting fed up.

neighbor went from a cat e series to a 9400. said no comparison but the jd may take a little more fuel.

The Challenger has a real powershift transmission, which is pretty important in a track tractor. It's also a 20k hour machine.

The Deere cab and controls are nicer. And it's painted that nice shade of green.

95e is very reliable, simple tractor with a lack of electronics that laden newer tractors. The only thing on the 95E electronic is the engine. As long as you keep good fuel filters on them and change them often the engine is pretty reliable. If it has a bunch of hours, just plan on putting new injectors in it. I believe that the 95E will ride much better then a 9400t. The 95e has an airbad adjustable bogie setup, and the Deere is all solid. I suspect that the Deere will use more fuel in the same job. The only advantage the 9400t MAY have is if the conditions promote slippage of the driver in the track. If the 95E has good drivers as far as wear, and the Chevron patter(like a tractor tire tread which it should) it should net good performance. Cat went to a larger driver in the MT line because as power goes up, the small driver just doesn't have enough surface area.

I would stay away from cast drivers, and 35" tracks. The only good place for cast drivers is in very muddy conditions. 35" tracks wear poorly and the cause worse the usualy vibrations. Remember that a 95E was the pinnacle and the last tractor that originated from a group of dozer engineers that built an Ag tractor. The driveline is largely bulletproof, is simple and maybe even a little crude by todays standards.

The only tractor that I would pick over a 95e for a high hp drawbar tractor, would be an Mt855/Mt865.

yes, they are a good tractor. i have no expirience with the deere T, other than a jd dealer let me demo a 9520T for a few hours. the 95e won't like to turn very well if the driver gets wet. I've put anhydrous ammonia down in snowy conditions many times and it did ok. the 95e is easy on the fuel.

The MT models are a much better ride, better balanced and last time i checked cat is the only tractor that has the hyd. controlled drawbar.....just on the mt models.

If you put cast iron drivers on the 95E it will have no driver slip issues, even running where the T has trouble.

If you find anyone you can talk into "getting away from" cast iron, I'll take two more sets.

Thats interesting info plowboy, I've seen lots of cast drivers cause more damage to tracks then good. In hard pull conditions they will actually pinch the inner part of the belt and ruin it. Cat put on special belts that have an extra cable in them to go with the cast drivers, because they are so hard on the belt. I've also seen then when they run in a little snow and they won't work as the cast drivers ice up, and chevron drivers will flex and break the ice off. The cast drivers were intended for badly muddy conditions, and the slots in the cast driver let the mud squish out instead of building up to bend tear up the undercarriage.

I guess I'll change my last comment to "In Iowa, if you are going to be doing heavy drawbar applications, or pulling a scraper, I would recommend staying away from Cast drivers. They can quickly damage the inner portion of the track in a high power, high traction application."

The biggest cause of inner track damage I have heard of is failing to keep the scrapers in good condition and adjusted up right.    Seems like if dirt sticks to the drivers, you are in trouble.
