Macon, IL | Time for a new mower on Sun. I am looking at auction but if I don't get one there I am seriously considering one of those new swisher Zero turns from Rural King. Much cheaper than other major manufactures with a lot less "frills" on the mower. If anyone has used one I would appreciate any thoughts good or bad.
They have a 25hp 60" with "Twin Hydrostatic Transmission" model ZT2560 for $3,999. They also have a 27hp 66" with "Hydrostatic Drive aand Eaton Transmission" and "Belly Mount Electric Clutch" for $4,499. I am not really sure what those are.
Would it be worth an extra $500 for electic belly mount clutch and the transmission difference?
I also saw them in the Northern Tool catalog for the same price. Both have the Briggs and Strattor ELS V-Twin engines.
Any input would be appreciated.

Hutchinson Kansas | They are kinda junk. Looked at one at the state fair, it was a demo unit with like 10 hours on it, the deck was all tore to hell. The decks are VERY light compared to most others. I would seriously look at a Dixon Kodiak or a Cub Tank. They will cost a little bit more, but will be a much better choice IMO.

| Haven't looked too closely at them, but I have noticed on some of the cheaper ZTR stuff like at Lowes, etc. They have cheaper engines, not pressure lubed, no oil filters etc. I'm thinking for that kind of money you can buy a pretty good used Dixie Chopper or Grasshopper. As for the clutch, I'd prefer a manual one. Electric clutches have to be expensive to replace and I think start the deck too hard (fast).

| It looks like an nice mower for that kind of money. I have a New Holland 0 turn (built by Toro) and am very happy with it and it was also alot cheaper than the other brands. You can wear out 2 Swishers for the price of 1 of the other brands so who cares if they are not as good. As far as the electric clutch goes, they can start the thresher and the auger on a combine with them so why not a mower, its the only way to go in my opinion. |

Michigan | We had an Ariens zero yurn from Home Depot - we went though two decks in 3 years. Most of the lower priced zero turns are meant for large city lots, in my opinion.
Switched to a Country Clipper "Jazee 2" - no problems
so far - very good value - but built right. Very solid deck, one joystick took a little getting used to - but it works great. They use the same spindle in the version I bought as in thier commercial version. The deck flips up for easier cleaning and maint. http://www.countryclipper.com/residential_acreage_jazee.shtml |

Pasco WA. | Personally I try and stay away from Briggs and Stratton engines. I have had a Dixon ZTR 542 for almost 10 years. I just bought a new JD Z445. Will know in a week how well we like it. |
