SW Iowa | This is the first year I have used a preplant program on notil beans. I have not combined any of them yet. Do any of you feel that there is a yield reduction using sonic? I used Lexar on the corn the
year before at 3.5qt./ acre. I am noticing the beans did not get very tall on the thinner soil areas. We have had timely rains and do not think it is from being to dry or to wet. My PH is in the 5.5 area.
Is there a different preplant product out there that will control marestail in notil beans without carry over concerns. I have already decided not to use Lexar next year. Will go to a two pass program on corn.

EC MN - Hour North of 'The Cities' | Rob,
What was your rate of Sonic and what texture is your soil? After reading over many herbicide trials with various chemicals used pre and post, I found Sonic to be on of the best choices for me in terms of yield, crop response, and weed control.
We used Sonic this year and looking like we might have some pretty good beans, but we are WAY ABOVE AVERAGE for rainfall. It looks like I hit my Sonic rate just right, but could have upped my Prowl.
The past couple years haven't been the best for beans on ground that had Lumax (also has Callisto) carry-over in our area. We are on lighter soil, but it isn't blow sand by any means. Usually notice it on point rows and other doubled-up areas.
I think I'd put my money on Callisto damage over Sonic damage if both labels were followed correctly and maybe you were limitied on rainfall last year?

SW Iowa | Lance, You are probably right about callisto damage more than sonic. I am seeing it on point rows and between terraces. My soil is a meduim texture with a 3% organic matter. I used 3oz. of sonic.
I use a 60' boom with 3 section shut-offs. Next year I am going to 5 sections to reduce the overlap areas. I am thinking of using SureStart next year on corn followed with glysophate & atrazine post.
Thanks for your input. Rob |

USA | What rate of Lexar did you use?
Should have read your post better, see the rate now. 3.5 quarts Lexar is 6.2 oz Callisto. IMO that rate of Callisto is asking for problems, when it comes to carryover.

| Rob, this is the second year we have used Sonic on at least some of our no-till bean acres. I am extremely happy with it. As far as Surestart........Had a bad experience with it last year. Neighbors all used it and got along fine so..........
Went with a reduced rate of keystone followed by post app of R Up and Atrazine this year, corn is clean. |

Northern Illinois | I would third or fourth the Callisto issue, on lighter soils 3.5 qts of Lexar is too hot, you probably only want to run like 2.7-3 qts on finer soil types, on dark heavy 3.5 will not be a problem. As far as Sonic goes, used it the last two years and very very happy with it. |

| Sonic is a good product, other options if your interested would be Valor or Optill (especially no till)for beans. dont know if i would just do a two pass for corn, i'd sleep better at night with a pre down on corn, but thats just me |

| Sprayed seveal acers of both the authority first (basically same as sonic) and authority assist and we had good control with both but the assist seems to be cleaner around here! |

| Are you guys applying sonic in the fall,or spring burndown, or doing it both ways? |
