drive over pit grates

Subject: drive over pit grates


Need to build something for the end of my pit already have a grate for the pit but need some thing to cover the ends of the drag that doesn't need grate but want to be able to hold up semi since it is line with load out any picture of any ideas?

not answer you where looking for but

I don't see any spacers in between the long grate bars

have seen times where the brakes get applied and the bars get bent

by welding spacers in makes the bars support together

Back in 95 when I built mine - 12" channel iron.
About 32" span.

Never bent. Straigt truck, semi or 450 bu cart went over it.

100% in agreement with your statement - but if I'm looking at the picture right there shouldn't ever be any tires running over the long bars as it's centered between them for the hopper dumps.

side note - if a guy has access to a metelworker / hole punch punching a hole in each one in line then sticking a round rod all the way through is a real nice way to do the spacers (just weld in place once all are alligned)
