Considering ordering a #46 Turbo II tommorow for my 1460 (show special yet). Thoughts on their performance? Changes in air filter replacement need / life?

If you have a functioning exhaust aspirated air cleaner on your combine I would save the money.

I have had 2 on tractors and thought then did a very good job. I'm sure on a combine they would work just as well.

had one on a 4440 that ran a neuro grain vac, that was the way we unloaded the 6, 10000bu bins, you would not believe how much crap it kept out of the filter. If the wind was right you had to blow it out every day, but after we added the precleaner it went to once a week and half as much trash on the filter. For us money well spend!

I agree but dont that combine have an aspirator type on it. just make sure the aspirator is in good condition especially the orffice on top of the muffler as i have seen those rust out and suck exhaust back to the filter and soot the filter up.

when i used to have a 4400 combine, i got one at the spencer fair (special). as i remember, it was still kinda high priced. it did make a world of difference in how soon the air filter plugged up, it was sure worth it. not sure how much extra good it would do if you already have the exhaust type precleaner. i have one that i am tempted to put on my 7720 to see.

We put one on my cousins JD 5400 silage chopper and it made a huge difference . Instead of every day cleaning air filter, every 3 or 4 days now.

They are good. I actually preferred the original Turbo over the TurboII for aesthetic reasons. There are several other companies who build the same type. I think the Donaldson Cyclone is usually the best price. Deere dealers sell the Cummins Filtration version through parts. There is also Enginaire.

Any of the rotary precleaners are far better then an exhaust aspirated one in my opinion. Hooking the exhaust to the intake just isn't a good idea, it's not a matter of if the venturi will fail and load the filter with soot, it's just a question of when.

Thanks for the thoughts all, I'm going to go ahead with it - I'm actually thinking of running it on the combine in the fall, and 4840 in the spring doing tillage. Fall tillage doesn't seem to kick up near the same amount of dust as in the spring. combine has the tube between the exhaust and the air intake extension pipe - but I am considering doing the muffler elimination (leaf collection ignition device) like they did on later models anyway. without the tube style precleaner like the newer models, I don't see the venturi being that effictive the way it is set up now.

I do not like the original Turbo or the Donaldson clone for a slow moving machine. The separated debris is dumped out directly above the air intake. All it does is recycle most of the dirt. Donaldson makes an in-line horizontal 4" and a vertical 6" precleaner that I do like and use.

Are these rotary ejectors?  Do you have a number handy, as I was not aware of them.
