Eastern Kansas
Wondering the difference in these different combine sizes from Case IH. Is it pretty much just horse power by turning more fuel to the engine or other differences to increase capacity. Same threshing and cleaning? Do they take basically the same parts? Been running an early model 2388 and looking at later models of these sizes and price differences. 77's may be a little cheaper.

Thanks

pretty much you are correct... 2588's have a little more HP and a electronic fuel pump not the turn the screw and instant HP mechanical.

hydro has some more power too...u can really feel it..not sure if something is different on the hydro or if its just the HP...

The electronic engines will drink 10-20% more fuel per acre than the mechanical fuel pump ones, although they do have an extra HP boost when unloading on the go.

Personally, I would be inclined to buy one of the early 2377s with a mechanical pump, and turn it up to the HP of an 88.

The 88s came standard with the hopper extensions, which wasn't standard on the 77s. You could easily add that to a 77 that doesn't have it.

There are some differences in parts.

I have a 2588. Had a lot of problems last fall that were to blame largely on mud etc.

Called for a few parts, and they said "we have one for a 2388, and it will fit 2588" Mainly things like extended wear augers, etc. Since they only made those 2588 a couple years, they are just putting 2388 parts on em I guess so the parts dept does not have to stock so much and there are a bazillion 2388's out there.

Case has quality control issues imho. Like the machine for the most part, but things break that shouldn't. Mainly from cheap or flimsy steel components. Been happy with the longevity of bearings and such.

Lost 2nd gear in transmission, 3 teeth gone....that was the big one. Possible I shifted without it at a complete stop, but I am doubtful.

Lost a couple of bolts in tensioners (bolts just simply broke and let pieces fly apart that are on springs)

Shaft on the lower clean grain screw twisted in two right where it meets the elevator sprocket.....with no load on it. Very cold morning.

Shaft in the unloader gear box broke. Wet corn cold day...........

Most of these steel breaks were on cold days. The way this fall looks, it won't ever be operated under 80 degrees so I should have a great fall!

Never had any of these things happen with 6 years on the previous 2388
