Subject: Shoup Quality vs. OEM

East Central Indiana
We are going to be rebuilding a Kinze 3600 planter this winter. I priced no till coulters, disc openers and brushes from Kinze, Deere, and Shoup. There was a considerable savings by going with Shoup on all the items. Does anyone know if the stuff from Shoup is the same as what I would be getting from the dealers or is this a "sounds to good to be true it probably is" thing? I don't want to think i'm saving a bundle then have to rebuild or be replacing bearings in the near future. Thanks

This subject has been hashed, rehashed, and refried here...probably more that ILFF. lol.

I think you'll be fine with those items. The only trouble that I have had was with hub castings for the 750 drill.

I was told by one of their rep's that their products are made by manufaturer's
that made them for the OEM at one time or another and then lost the comtract. use their products all the time and very happy with their products and costumer service. Bob

I get lots of stuff from them.  Never a problem and often times the manufacturer is the same as where the OEM's get parts from.  Go for it.

I split a planter a few years ago...did one side with Shoup parts (opener and fertilizer blades) and put Deere on the other side.

It was a good thing I made a written note of what went where, because there was absolutely no difference in wear.

anytime i have ever had a problem with a part from Shoup, it has only taken a phone call, and that problem was immediately addressed, and resolved. They have been very good people to work with.

Specifically on Kinze parts, I have had many of them come with a Kinze part label on them. On openers, the last i knew Shoup is buying the blades, and doing there own bearing and hub installs, in house, so that they can control the quality of the bearing going into it.

This past year I did have a problem with some of the CIH closing discs, bearings going out with few acres run. A call got an acknowledgment, that yes there was a problem, and that was an item they had been sourcing as a complete unit. Sent me all new Timken bearings, nc, yes I'll had labor in changing, but they straight up told me if they sent new replacements, from what they had left in stock, the results would have been the same. They actually had pulled this item, and was no longer shipping it out due to the failures. They will be putting them together themselves for this next year, to again have that quality control.

I was impressed to deal with an outfit that admitted, we have a problem, here is what it is, and at this time we can offer this to fix it. Never once got the normal, this is the first time we heard of this, or your the only one. Straight shooting means more with me, and they have maintained me as a customer. The majors could learn something here.

Well said, Chris. It blows my mind that they can sell this stuff shipped to your door at these prices and still make money. Proves to me how much OEM dealers are raping us on parts! Craig

Local j.d. dealer wants $85 for a part coming directly from Shoup that is listed in their catalog for almost $30 less.

I put new disc openers and coulters on my White 5100 this spring from Schoup. Everything worked great and the parts arrived in two days, free shipping. I had a great stand too.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will order from Shoup first of the year and save 10% more by picking up at Louisville farm show.

I have also had good experience with Shoup. If it were not for companies like Shoup, I wonder exactly how much we WOULD pay for OEM parts?

I've always had good luck with their parts. Just ordered new blades for my 750 drill and they have Ingersoll stamped on them. Wilson
